Can anyone report any promising accuracy with the faxon .308 barrels? I’m what you might call a meticulous hand loader and I can’t get better then 2-3 moa out my 20” big gunner on my stag 10. I’ve tried 168 Barnes ttsx, 168 Hornady ELD-M, Hornady 150 SST’s and Campro 147’s with Varget, IMR 4895, H4895 and IMR 4064.
I’m running out of patience and I have a friend who’s had the same luck with his. If you’ve some luck please pm me with some direction.
Thanks

Reviews on these seemed inconsistent a few years back when I was looking at them which seems to jive with what you are seeing. Good luck.

From what I've seen that is the accuracy of a faxon. Sometimes some people get lucky and get a 1 moa big gunner but the majority are 2-3.

Another thing I've noticed shooting my semi autos is you have to use a different technique vs a bolt gun. If i hang onto it like a bolt gun i get 1.5-2 moa out of both custom barrels and ballistic advantage barrels. But if I pull the rifle into me fairly hard and hang onto it tight the accuracy goes way up. Like sub half moa accuracy. But if I let go it goes back down to over moa accuracy. The semi auto is very picky from what I've seen. They have a loooong lock time and dont necessarily let the exact same amount of gas flow through the port and gas block. Even a little variation in powder charge changes the time the bcg unlocks and starts to cycle. They are a fickle thing sometimes. But they can be very very accurate

Trust me I know how to get accuracy with a gas gun my 3-Gun build started life getting .3 moa average with smk's and after 7000 rounds and rework of the load it's still under an inch. My modern sporter has a B.A. Barrel on it and with one round of load development it shoots moa. Maybe I'm just spoiled with good barrels but I don't think I'm unreasonable to want better then 2 moa.

I got very lucky on my Lightweight Stag 308 build. My faxon pencil barrel shoots 1.25 MOA with Remington corelokt 150gr. Perfect for me. My 6.5 build uses a gunner barrel and it shoots at 1 MOA with premium ammo. Both had rough chamobers that needed some work. If I was doing it all over again I would have a barrel made by IBI

They’re excellent barrels from all accounts but I don’t think I’d be expecting 1 MOA from a barrel marketed as a value based product. 2-3 MOA sounds more than reasonable to me. Have you tried any of their match offerings?

I had a Faxon .308 20" pencil barrel. It was a consistent 1.5moa 5 shot groups with Federal Gold Medal Match 168. About the same with Federal Gold Medal Match 165 Sierra game kings. That was good enough for me for hunting. I changed to a MRA pencil barrel, to save 1.4". It is about the same accuracy with the same ammo.

I've read / heard it's kinda hit & miss on them for accuracy. I'd try some of the Fed GMM 168 or 175 and see how it does with that.
