I just could not resist buying this barrel from the nice vendors at TNA is Mississauga here on CGNutz. Shipping was spooky fast and I just could not resist the temptation to build another Super Match rig but this time I’m gonna shoot it for myself (yeah , right)....
The Faxon barrel comes with a Nitride Finish both inside and outside surfaces. Kinda looks like a very deep black coloured bluing job. It did NOT come with a Heavy NM Op rod guide so I had to source one from Mr McKee at Fulton Armory. You are on your own to source one for yourself. I’m not certain if you purchased a Krieger Heavy NM barrel from board sponsored dealers like Nordic Marksman and Hirsch Precision, an accompanying NM Op rod guide will be included. Remember the Heavy NM barrels need their OWN proprietary NM Op rod Guides. Be warned!!
Picture of my rig on the bench at the range:

Other side:

The stock is the Boyd’s, made for Springfield Armoury folks and it’s a pretty beefy profile. Since it’s oil finished, I will need to strip this factory finish entirely before I glass bed this baby. Time to either build and Heavy Match stock that’s super stiff and / or buy an M1A McMillan stock from Glendale, Arizona and have a local importer work their import process magic...
How’s she shoot? Well I did the fire one shot and clean with copper solvent for the first ten rounds. Then I fired three rounds and cleaned for the next fifteen rounds. Yup that’s the usual break in process. Force of Habit, I guess!
Then I shot a group...
Have a look at the ten shot group I shot today. I used an ARMS 18 scope mount and a Bushnell 10 x 40 mm Mildot scope. I would have loved to use one of my HDMR2 H59 Reticle Bushnell scopes but it’s mounted on my Accuracy International 308 rig. And there she will stay.

My interpretation and it’s only my take....
Tons of shooting potential since I’m using a wood stock subject to wood compression as wood is prone to do. I’m a glass stock guy and a competition shooter so stiff glass stocks for me... hey your rig is your own rig. What works for you ain’t necessarily gonna work for others here on CGNutz....
Couple of flyers up on the left, the cell phone camera is turned over, since my bench technique always sucked over the years. This rig HAS to get glass bedded into a super stiff stock. That’s just my bias!!
Anyways. I’m pleased with how this Super Match build is coming along. It’s a pleasure to shoot. Now I need to consider a shooting jacket.
Back to the Future, Marty!!
Faxon barrels have had a super established reputation for building machine gun barrels for the US Military as well as AR15 “Gunny” barrels. I believe CTCS a board sponsor has Faxon AR15 barrels for sale and lots of them. Or one can google search and head to the Faxon site and read about their barrel building practices. Now they are venturing into the M14 world. This may be a challenge to the Krieger Barrel M14 empire. More M14 barrels for us, what’s not to like??
More on this adventure in the coming months!!
Cheers, Barney
