What will this do to the market price of Gen 3/4 Glock's?

This is quite an endorsement for Glock. Glad for them.

I felt that there were a few other makes and models in review....but it appears they didn't make the cut...

I look forward to shooting the new Generation 5 units...

This decision may lower the value of the 40cal pistols overall as well - since they chose 9mm....

.40's already don't hold their value nearly as well as 9's. I expect the 5th gen will come in about 100 bucks more than the 4th, rather than further driving down the Gen 3 and 4's. Based on the handful of pictures I've seen of the "17M" though, I don't see a drastic change from my Gen 4 aside from ditching the finger grooves and adding the ambi slide release. Although, I'm admittedly far from a wealth of Glock knowledge. Of course time will tell, and I'm optimistic for the best.

I'd be curious to try one out if and when they make it up here. If I recall correctly though, when the gen 4's came out it didn't drop the new price of the gen 3's they were just a bit more expensive for the 4's. chances are good that's precisely what will happen with the 5's.

The Gen 4 is like $50 more than the Gen 3 but the Gen 3 comes with 2 mags while the Gen 4 comes with 3. There is the price difference your paying for.

From what I've been observing on the EE here, the price of earlier generation Glocks hasn't dropped at all. People are asking as much for a gen 1 Glock as they are for gen 4 Glocks which hardly make sense.

Why would someone pay the same price for a gen 1 Glock when he can get a Gen 4 Glock for the same price.

You have to ask more than its worth on the EE, because no one pays asking price. They want it for hundreds less. Which then brings the selling price down from out of the clouds.

I must be the odd man out.

I don't try and bargain with sellers; if the asking price is reasonable I pay it; if it's not, I don't even bother to contact them.

Aren't gen1 glocks kind of rare? There are collectors collecting collections of everything and anything!

Sold my Gen 2 some years back when I needed some cash. Stayed away from the Gen 3 & 4 as the fingergrooves don't fit my hand well. Will have to take a serious look at these Gen 5s when they make it up here.

I've seen one vendor where the difference was about 50 bucks, but typically the price jump from a 3 to a 4 is about 100-150 bucks. Having said that I do see the value in the gen 4 as you're getting more than just an extra mag. I was just pointing out that it's unlikely Glock will tell it's distributors to reduce prices when they can ask for more knowing they'll get it.
