I've heard that you can not purchase one of these. I was wondering why? I don't have the stats on it so I don't know if it is just too short or is it that it resembles a prohibited weapon.

Anyone know?

Thanks.

they police stole my feather AT-9 in 1991...yeah i know you ave all heard this before from me but i'm carrying a grudge:D

This will show my total lack of knowledge but what is the difference between the RAV and an AR15 which appears to be legal here?

Gee thanks... you're a big help. Sorry that not everyone who is interested has all of your decades of knowledge.
Be more specific in your questions.

The AR15 is restricted by name. The reason it isn't prohibited is because lots of people owned them. Basically, too many owners to confiscate without legal issues.

The AT9 is a evil looking piece of junk. Only a handful were in the country, much easier to be banned.

Thank you. That was much more helpful. I'm not trying to be an A$$, just trying to learn. Guess what I should have done was look up as much about the stats and mechanics about each rifle, but there didn't seem to be too much out there about the RAV. One of the only reasons I was interested in the RAV was that it was inexpensive and it seems to use Glock magazines.

You are correct, I should have been more specific with my question.

What I was really trying to get at was what are the mechanical differences between the two. I know that the AT9 is not permitted. Are there really that many mechanical differences between them or has the government, in it's infinite wisdom, just decided that the AT9 and any derivatives were banned as you said.

As I said, I know very little about these types of rifles but I am very interested in learning. Mechanically I assume they are basically the same but I'm sure there are differences such as barrel length or overall length that will actually make a difference and there are some things that are purely cosmetic.

With the exception of full-auto guns, it's clear most prohibitions of firearms by name can at best be attributed to subjective cosmetic details. Some fascist bureaucrat got scared looking at a picture of one, so it must be evil, and must be banned.

Mechanically, all firearms are essentially the same ... they project a small piece of lead at high speed. The only things that actually "make a difference" are the intentions and actions of the person holding the gun.

Keep in mind the government got stupid enough to even ban prototype guns and experimental model because they looked mean..

It was complete lunacy

The HK G11 is banned in Canada. The G11 never made it past prototype. I would doubt more than 5 we ever made in the the entire world.

Thank got the banned it.
