My garage has been invaded by squirrels over the last few weeks. They've been making a mess of my garbage and pooping everywhere. A few days ago I came home from work to find 3 of them around my 55 gal garbage barrels.

I have an extensive 22 ammo collection (including CCI shot shells) but nothing that would kill a squirrel without possibly damaging something or ricocheting. So I picked up some Federal #12 shot shells thinking they'll feed well in my tube fed Cooey (my garage gun) and have enough power to knock them down for a follow up shot.

I took a test shot on an empty water bottle at 10 feet to test the pattern. With an authoritative POP the round blew the empty bottle across the driveway. About 20 pellets were inside the bottle with many pass throughs

Wow. I shot a big black this morning, it was sitting facing me and it worked excellent. At 15-18 feet from my Cooey 600 the squirrel was punched from the rafters, did a 3 sec shake on the floor and that was it. Certainly more power than I ever expected, and judging by the pool of blood on the floor penetration was very good as well.

I had tried the CCI shot shells in my 597 before, I was very unimpressed, they've sat in my cabinet ever since. I dont trust feeding them in my cooey. These federal cartridges are crimped at the end, rather than CCIs shot cap configuration. I think Federals design builds more pressure giving more down range velocity power.

I'll have to test to see if the Feds work well in my 597.

If your thinking about 22 shot shells, try federals. Better, more durable and much cheaper per round than CCI

Get a small live trap and bait with peanut butter.
When you catch them in the trap place in a deep pail of water and learn them to swim.
Find the hole they are entering your shop through as they are starting to build nests ...
Once you find one, they already know where the hole is and will keep coming back ...
Might not be as much fun as the RimFire shotsshells, but it won't garner the neighbors attention.

I use then for rats a squires as well, work Awsome In the barn

I've used them for same thing. Neighbor was having issues a few years ago with rats after neighbor next to him tore down an old chicken barn. Between him and I we shot dozens of them in barn. He shoots pigeons with them too sitting in the rafters. Work great and never go through the steel roof.

I've got a stash of close to 500 of the federals. I managed to score a LH Lakefield smooth bore off the EE about a year ago. I did pattern testing to 25' in 5' increments and it's pretty sweet. One other oddball smooth bore I have is a pair of Crosman 1100 CO2 powered shotguns, much bigger payload but slow ~600fps.
