I just bought a Pietta PPS50.

First time out with a new pack of Fed .22LR 525 round value pack. Never had a problem before but today I had almost every 3rd round a dud, some were just too soft and didnt cycle. Picked up the duds reloaded them, some fired, most did not. Closer look revealed that the bullets were actually loose and spun in crimp!!!

Anyone else have this issue?

The first 80 rounds left from an older pack shot fine, but this new batch... i dunno.

I found the Fed 525 pack gave a lot of jams, FTF and notsogood accuracy, but that's in a 10-22. My friends 10-22 gave better accuracy but still had a lot of jams and FTF. Some of the problems seem to come from the very "waxy" coating and I have to clean the action at least every 40-50 rounds. Not a huge problem, just a cleaning cloth with a small amount of solvent or light oil and a quick wipe. I felt the savings didn't justify the problems but a bolt gun may prove to be better.

Sometimes I hate them, and other times they work great for me. Last night I had one that clearly had no primer in the rim. The firing pin hit it several times on different spots to no avail. Oh well, maybe that's why there's an extra 25 in the box.

i will not use any of these carts in my guns. the frustration is too much and happens too many times. Remington are even worse for dirty but not as many ftfs. The autos have trouble cycling using federals, but bolts had the most ftfs.

My 10/22 has eaten up around well...I guess 1575 of them with no cleaning (Haven't cleaned the gun since I bought it....2000 rounds later its about time tho) and it works fine maybe 10/1575 have FTF and the only problem I seem to have is the odd time they don't fully eject all the way and keep the bolt from closing. I guess you guys call that FTE eh

Love them in my bolt, tried them in a 10/22T I borrowed - not as happy. No big surprise at 20-25 cent ammunition. I'm keeping them around for high volume shooting.

I have always had really good luck with them in 3 different semi-auto .22s. I have been buying by the case lately and have had zero issues with them. Next to CCI Mini-mags they have been my 'goto' ammo for years.

Just ordered a Ruger rimfire pistol(22/45). I was going to ask what ammo might be suitable...but mattock says the Federal works good. Certainly worth a box to try out!

Interesting, because I've had the same observation as of late. Federal Valu used to be great, bargain-priced ammunition that not only went bang, but gave nice groupings. I bought some a little while ago, and had issues with it. QC going down?

it varies based on the gun. I've got a dozen 22's; some shoot 525's well, others don't. I can't characterize them as any better or worse than any other ammo out there. I've fired 4 or 5 cases of them (~20000) over the past few years in an assortment of guns

My ruger mkIII love thoses. Around 1500 of them In the gun and 3 failure to fire and no others failures. The gun have around 3000rounds total and I clean it every 1000 rounds.

When I first got my 10/22 I tried the Federals and had endless problems with fail to fire or fail to eject. I slowly shot them off through my bolt guns and switched to American Eagle. When AE got scarce, I gave Fed bulk another try and it worked fine in my 10/22. I'll keep buying it because its whats available and generally works ok. Semi auto's can be finicky. Gumming up of the action from the large amounts of carbon produced by rimfire can be a real problem. I'm using a dry graphite spray now on my 10/22 and its going for a record stretch without maintenance. One things for certain, I'll never use oil on a 10/22 bolt again. Generates sludge and gum way too fast.

Winchester Dynapoint GT's also work well in my 22/45 and Winchester 555 ammo is pretty good, but occasionally does jam.

If the gun is clean, the 525 ammo will run 100% on feeding, with just the occasional dud round to slow things down.

Semi-auto's can be fussy when it comes to ammo. Sometimes it takes awhile to find a brand/bullet weight/type the gun likes. Sometimes nothing seems to works really well. Other guns seem to fire whatever brand of ammo is on sale that week without a hitch. Those guns are the keeper. Also don't complain about cheap 22 ammo, it's cheap for a reason.

Never had a problem with them in my 10-22 or my 22-45. I have shot thousands of rounds of it and seems pretty good to me. Although I'm working off thousands that I had bought when I went through my "hoarding 525 value packs" stage. Maybe it's a bad lot? Do you have the lot number?

i have 2 bricks of them. my CZ 513 hates them. when i load up the mag and chamber the round. then the bolt take the bullet out of the mage and into the chamber it mars the buller below it for the first 3-4 rounds in my 10 round mag. have another 5 rnd mag and it dose it to the top 2. just soft lead i guess. the only thing i use them in in my old school husy single. let me tell you it take a long time to burn up 1050rnds in a single shot.
CZ dosnt do it with any onther ammo.
