Looking for experienced opinions on the effectiveness of Federal Black Cloud BB on geese. Patterns well? Preferred choke?

I had some for my 10 gauge browning's, I had to us an IC choke tube , to be effective , and it shortened up my range by 20 or 25 yards
for my 12 gauges , I use the black cloud snow goose stuff for snow geese and use a modified choke tube it really works well
slams them with authority, with a decent range to it and had a fare patter to it
but in the 10 gauge the black cloud is not the answer, it didn't pattern as well as Remington or Winchester ammo or regular federal ammo
I'm going to assume because the black cloud doesn't like a choke tube that strips the wad open
it doesn't work well in 10 gauges

I used it in an old Ithaca 37 with fixed modified choke. I was told by a man named Ron Sharpe who is well known for being very knowledgeable about Ithacas that if you want to shoot steel out of a fixed barrel shotgun (modified or more open choke, not full) that the federal ammo using flight control wads are the way to go because the wad stays with the shot longer and their is none or very little steel on steel contact. As for performance they worked very well for me. I always kept my shots 30yds or less. I sold the gun to a buddy and he used it for geese with the black cloud and was very happy with it as well

next time I get through that way I'll give you shout , and go for a coffee , or some dern thing like that ,
rt now I'm pretending to be a pointer ( sitting point me arss to the heat vent), this cold weather has my fingers frozen up every time I go out in it
I have really bad circulation this winter, I guess 7 heart attacks does that to a man
Lmao, and besides the geese flew the chicken coop that the ducks were in

Isn’t aging fun?! The past year I have started being hit with arthritis and it’s come on quickly. Some days I can hardly feed ammo into a mag or maintain a good grip on a pistol grip, especially in colder weather. Not liking this one bit. As for the black cloud ammo? Never got to give it an honest testing, only fired three rounds. Am told it works well but I no longer own a gun the ammo I have fits in.

Is aging ever fun. Was just diagnosed with fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. I should be out waiting for a deer to pop out, but for the second year in a row I'm not able to do it. Tried a few weeks shooting and just can't take the recoil and holding rifle freehand is difficult because of pain. Hoping docs can get it under control soon.

I just use Winchester super X pretty much now only. I have found the expensive other shells of the same size and cal. Don’t make much difference for a lot more price. But every one is different and so are the guns. Try it if it’s not for you then don’t buy again.

I have not used Black Cloud myself, due to the price, but my hunting partner does, and it works well our of his Super Nova with a modified choke. I personally like to use 3" Remington "T" shot on geese. I can engage them at longer distances.

Bought a few boxes once...but never again. They pattered like crap compared to other shells out of my Mossberg 935, likely because of the 10 bore barrel. They seemed to be better out of my Browning Silver, but not worth justifying the additional cost. El cheapo Winchester and Federal for me.

A hunting partner uses them. If he ever starts killing more geese than I do, I may try them someday. Until then, I will stick with the 3" Kent Fasteel.

Black cloud changed their wad this year so it can be shot threw any choke.

I was collecting decoys one night and I picked up two wads about 150 yards from our spread that had at least 15 pellets still in the wad when I picked it up. I guess the gun fired and the wad didn't open up and the pellets carried the wad that far.

I haven't shot them since, I went back to Remington 3" BB out of my Maxus.

I have a Carlson black cloud choke and with the old flight control wad black cloud that set up is awesome, but I still can get triples with the Remington 3"
