We were using 130 g .270 WSM Federal blue box last fall for mule deer.
At short range, one shot kills, pass through both lungs, both deer dropped dead within seconds. Like everyone says.......shot placement is critical.
Sure, there's lots of premium bullets out there, too, and no doubt, they work as well or probably better, particularly when the animal is presenting something less favorable than a broadside stance. Remember that for decades, bullets that were no better (and probably worse) than Federal blue box harvested countless big game.

its just a guy could get way to into it with super magnums realtree camo premium bullets newest rifle with super short magnums super varible power scopes camo "plastic" stocks and such its hard for a new hunter to realise that you dont need it.now that i think of it it makes me mad

They shoot very accurately in my bolt action rifle at 200 yards. I'd probably use 150's though on deer as that seems to be more conventional. Federal blue box Power Shok is great ammo for the price. I'm not sold on the need for premium ammo for deer. Its more an issue of how your rifle likes a particular ammo and your shot placement. Nor do I think its a big deal whether your deer drops on the spot or leaps and you find it 30 yards from where you shot it.

Your choice of rifles and ammo is fine. Practice your shooting, be safe in the bush, and enjoy your hunt.
Find your pride in your skill as a hunter, rather than in the shiny toys that do not in any way define a hunter. It takes more than a hat and a belt buckle to make a cowboy.
