Federal Buckshot and Piss Poor Performance

It's not the size I am worried about, the pellets that release track as I would expect more or less. Much of the payload is failing to separate from the shotcup. It's not even a net benefit terminally judging by the 000 pellets I said stopped almost immediately in soft wood.
Soft wood isn't an analog for flesh. 🤷‍♂️

If the shot cup/pellets are hitting poa at all your sub 20m distances I don’t see the problem, if it’s just for your stated purpose having a big chunk of lead isn’t that bad of a deal. It’s going to put down anything you hit. Doesn’t fed flitecontrol just make a big hole at shorter distances? It’s flitecontrol cup keeps pellets together longer resulting in tighter patterns from cyl bore barrels if I understand correctly, I’ve never shot them. My Estate 00buck works plenty well for any buckshots needs I might have.

As I mentioned twice before, there is apparently no benefit to the mass of pellets. When striking something they stop almost immediately without enough energy to make it through the plastic into wood. It's such a mangled mess it's hard to tell but the penetration is dramatically less than the pellets that manage to break free. The 000 goes in so far I can't even tell exactly how much while the 3 stuck to the shotcup were right there at the surface. The shotcup seems to be acting like a drag chute, slowing the mass of lead and plastic down so much it's almost impressive. If it were as you are thinking I would be totally fine with it. It would be like an inconsistent form of Flitecontrol.

I took a deer at 35 yards with #4 buckshot; instant death with massive meat damage. If your using slugs, use a rifle.
No rifles here, shotgun or MZ only. Not saying it can't be done, but if most patterned their shotgun with buckshot starting at 10m going back to 35 they would see how overrated it is the further you go.

I want to do more testing before I contact them but I will if I feel I can present a comprehensible case. I have 1500+ shells to work with so if there is something to this I will get it figured.

I know some aftermarket choke manufacturers advertise “wad stripping” as a feature of certain models. Wonder if something like that would benefit you? Slowing the wad as it exits the barrel may be enough to get the pellets to separate before it begins to slow them in flight?

I too find a rifle much more useful but not everyone's hunting skill or conditions are the same. I suck at getting close to coyotes and aside from patches of bush it's mostly been flat or low rolling farmland around me.

I am hoping to do some more patterning this weekend to hopefully shed more light on the shotshell issues.
