Federal gun grab?

i think we stop buying guns until the shops spend some money on lawyers to straighten out the rcmp, its all about money. money buys politicians. Im going to boycott all gun stores and not renewing memership at my range. Let all the gun clubs close i could care less ill go to crown land. and ill buy ammo from crappy tire. If the people we buy our guns from cant protect us why should we support them? they are lazy and they dont stand up to the rcmp, it doesnt take millions of dollars to go to supreme court. i might not be the guy that spends thousands of dollars a month but i definately spend thousands of dollars a year and rule #1 in business is TAKE CARE OF THE LITTLE PEOPLE, they are the bread and butter.

Entitled much
All of us have to contribute.
Nice first post douche bag

You must be an anti troll to promote dissension.

Just contacted the NFA to know what they are doing (if anything) to join/help other organizations. Canadian firearms owners have the RCMP knocking on our doors and we're disbanded. John you said it perfectly in your first post. Gun owners need to DEMAND we have one force working for us. While this won't happen overnight. Start talking to you organization demanding that we want cooperation because this affects all of us.

Thank you for your post, it gave me the encouragement to post my thoughts.

I too think it is time for a national united lobby of firearms owners in Canada. This recent decision by the RCMP has made me think long and hard about what we need to do as a group of voting citizens. There is no need to re-invent the wheel. We only need to look south at the NRA to see lobby power in action.

Now, I'm not saying the NRA is perfect, it is with some faults, but they get the job done. Having worked with municipal political campaigns in the past, it comes down to numbers. The NRA has between 3 and 5 million members (they will not release their membership roll so there is no exact number) out of a population of 313 million people (2012 census). I'm not sure how many members the NFA or CSSA have, but if we have between 2 and 3 million firearms owners in Canada and a population of 31 million, we should, by the numbers, have a fairly easy path to creating/having a national lobby group with effective power.

It is true we do not have the same manufactures (Colt, Remington etc) in Canada that could provide the financial backing to finance TV ads and pay the large salaries the NRA employees and President ( LaPierre, was paid a salary of $831,709 in 2011 according to his tax returns) receive to actively spread the word and influence politicians. Surely between our numbers as firearms owners and with the support of firearms businesses in Canada, the financing of a strong, united, lobby that includes a modern and relevant presence both on the Internet and in the media is within reach.

We are working hard to get up to even 5000 signers on a petition of great importance. With a well directed, financed national lobby, and proper experienced paid action campaigners, we should have had half a million in one day.

Yes, Viallet, in your words "We need a sensible lobby, realistic goals and a stepwise logical action plan".

Kudos to Solomon Friedman who was interviewed on the CBC regarding the SA reclassification. He had a confident, straightforward message that non-firearms owners in Canada needed to hear. I think most people can agree, that this kind of message is what we need now more than ever.

Is there a representative from the NFA or CSSA on CGN that can speak to this? Can one of these organisations become the lobbying power that is now needed in this country, or does something need to start from scratch? If it is the latter, I am happy to start from square one untill we are where we want to be.

At the end of the day, we need to effectively organise not only among ourselves but to make in roads with the non-firearms owning population of Canada to make effective, lasting change in our system, so we can spend more time enjoying our firearms and less time trying to defend them.

After looking at all that has been put out there by all the various current organizations, I wonder if it just shouldn't be something built from scratch. Nothing says that existing parties can't be part of it, but I'm thinking more along the lines of something like "Hockey Canada" or "Boy Scouts". You have regional, provincial and national boards. I honestly think it would be best to have a cross country grassroot movement to agree on realistic goals and objectives. To be perfectly blunt from a guy who loves his shooting sports but has a lot liberal friends...using language like "I should be allowed to concealed carry" does more to harm then good for all of the owners out there. We need to respect that even within our own community we have shades of grey and what people feel is acceptable. I'd love to have caliber specific ladder style competitions - let my buddy with the bolt action .308 prove to me he can punch that paper just as fast and accurately as I can. Who knows, maybe he can.

I'm thinking less of a lobby group than a strong association for shooting sports and enthusiasts. It would likely take years to build, but an organization that has the primary focus of building the sport for generations to come will produce more results long term. Lobby? Yes, but from a position that what we do is as normal as a Sunday night hotrod enthusiast, Tuesday night softball player or Wednesday night Scout meeting.

It starts there, and ends here:

Our M.P. from Grande Prairie and the Peace River riding brought this up during question period, there is a blurb on his web page if you care to read it. If you can write email and let him know you appreciate him doing his job, and any other mp . I voted him in on the gun registry promise. This is an issue with the CPC but we have to keep the pressure on. Write your M.P. and get them moving. If we all sit here thinking everyone else is gonna do it were screwed. Takes 5 minutes out of your day. Not sure what to write?
Simply ask them to make their position on this matter clear publicly so you know who you are going to vote for in the next election.

"It doesn't matter, I don't own one of those rifles...."

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

well time to unpin some mags (if you own one)
might as well go out having a blast (pun definitely intended)

...just kidding ;)

Any sane person should realize Wolverine is a victim here as much as CZ-858 owners.

John, I've bought a few things from you over the years, but I'll see if I can't use my entire tax refund in your store.

I am literally sick to my stomach right now.... That Mountie report has ton of censored portions.... I am a CSSA and NFA contributor but I honestly think we need to do more then that... Just when I was starting to think things were looking up from a legislation point of view...

Bad mojo all around, it blows me away that a bureaucracy has that kind of power.

If all the firearms owners, enthusiasts and businesses join together we can get #### done. We just have to all stand up. They can't ignore all of us.

So how do we get the CSSA and NFA to cooperate for the long haul? My understanding is they've had a less than harmonious relationship.

If they do not agree to unite why don't we have a national poll and as members we all agree to back the winner of the support poll? We need to stick together and a unified front speaks volumes.

These fragmented segments representing us do nothing for us or at least not to the extent a single, national front would do!
