Federal handgun brass = crap? Mine is all chewed up...

I'm not exaggerating, and I'm not a weakling either. The last 2 rounds are VERY difficult to get in by hand. I always use the mag loader when using the ten rounds mags. Many factory ten rounders I have tried are like this. It's not something new. Some people have problems with the 10 rounders and jamming as well. Not sure if it is due to the crappy 10rd follower (a lot of guys in the US avoid the 10rd mags like the plague), or how hard the 10rd mags push up on the slide when it's fully loaded slowing it's momentum.

Here is a pic of the triangular wear marks... (click on it for a larger image)... is this fine to reload? I mean it doesn't appear to have thinned the wall.

That is garbage throw it out or recycle it... Its got a crack thats about half as long as the case is...

look again... next time you fire that it will tear down the side of the case

I think it may just be the light. That is a pretty good knock out of the mouth. Do other brands of ammo do the same thing?

I reload lots of Federal 9mm and 40 with no problems.

There is one 10mm one case I have that is Starline Brass. It was someones reload, way overpressure, and fired in a glock. That brass was soft plus the high pressure making it very easy to see the brass flow into the unsupported part of the chamber.

I just pulled this one from the tumbler... it was reloaded with only lead cast bullets with moderate velocities... after about 2 years of solid use they start to crack like this... I shoot about 200 a week and have about 1200 pcs of brass so they do get reloaded alot... This is a winchester 45 ACP

Must be something that reflected onto the case or something, as I have that piece right infront of me and cannot see or feel any crack, even with a magnifying glass. Though I did find one yesterday when I was sorting through them which did have a super tiny split beginning at the mouth which I tossed.

Sandroad,

NONE of my WWB or Winclean brass have these scrapes on them. I have read that the FC marked Federal AE brass is problematic when reloading .40 and I would imagine Federal would use the same source of brass for their 9mm cases. Apparently Federal brass that is actually marked "federal" is good stuff. Again, this is what I have read so I don't know if it is 100% accurate.
