Federal Small Pistol Primers Shortage?

Sweet Jesus, $55/box?! Just last summer I bought some for $35./box. Starting to get expensive to reload....

Was thinking the same thing. At $55 a box that’s $3 a box more than what Tenda was just selling their Federal Match SPPs for a couple weeks ago.

FOC said they had sold over half their stock and didn’t have a lot left. Had called around to my other usual suppliers who advised they had no idea when they would be getting any more federal or other SPPs in. So I bought a couple boxes of the federals from FOC to get me over the hump in case it’s awhile before they are in stock again. If the cci that I’ve loaded give me any issues at all i’ll use them for practice and switch to the federals for match play.

None of the suppliers i called seemed to be able to explain the general SPP shortage. Steve at Tenda said supply from the US had dried up for some reason.

Ive been using Fiocchi SP primers lately as well in my Shadow 2 which has a 11lb mainspring.Gone through about 3K without a single misfire. They perform just as well as federals and are way cheaper than the feds(and cheaper now than dominion which was previously my go to "cheap" primer).Work well in my progressive press as well.Ive ordered them from western metal .

Wow, the last boxes of primers that I bought were $30.00 a box , and I thought that was getting up there. At the price of 9mm ammo available nowadays it's probably cheaper to buy it already to use rather than reload..

I've used them all (except the Dominion ones.....aren't they made in China?) and never had any not ignite.

Wasn't there a CGNer a while back who took pics in the dark of the shower of sparks out of his revolver of several different brands...just so we can infer just how well they ignited? He used to post them here somehwere
