Deanner and I headed to the range the other day to sight in some .22 rifles. I had a few of the a/n shells, maybe 100 or so. Of the few that we tried, more than half, around 7, were duds. We tried the same ones in three different rifles, no go. I have a few bricks of them, hopefully they aren't all going to do that. Click! Bleep!

Given the temperatures across the prairies lately are you sure it's not a cold equipment issue?

Presumably you were having better luck with other ammo though? Maybe that bunch is cold sensitive or what conditions were you dealing with?

Certainly hope they aren't going to be thst eay. Ammo is darn expensive for that!

No. We were inside. Ammo has always been inside, as were the guns.

Have you tried refiring the ones that failed a second time? (Orient the cartridge so the firing pin strikes the rim at a different location than the first attempt). Are the lot numbers the same?

I had some old Federal 22 ammo I got in a deal las year or before and I had a dud or so. I even turned it and had the firing pin hit it a second time but no such luck . didn't have the patience to try it a third time. I was told many years ago that sometimes especially with bulk 22 ammo dumped in a box the primer moves in the rim . but this stuff was in boxes.

Oh yes! A couple we tried in three different guns. Not a major catastrophe. I pulled the bullets in five. Lots of powder in them. If this is the worst thing to happen to me, I’m okay with it. :p
