Curious if anyone has had the chance to shoot these slugs yet,and what your overall impression was. I want to get some good slugs to shoot out of a short barreled shotgun for bear defense,and since it's seemingly almost impossible to get the good Brenneke type stuff here, I am considering the Tru-Ball. The Challengers are also on my to-try list, so if you've tried them I'd like to know about your thoughts on those as well. Any other good deep-penetrating slugs that I'm missing? Also, does anyone know if you can import ammo from someone like Cabela's? They have a better selection than any of the canadian sites.

I think the new tru ball deep penetrator slug is very interesting. It is a low velocity/low recoil harder slug designed for 18-20 inches of penetration according to Federal (and it is still expanding?)...
I would prefer to see this one ounce slug loaded to 1700 fps instead of 1300 for close encounter with dangerous game though...

my point was that nearly all the slugs I can find from Federal, Winchester & Remington are very soft lead and the new Federal tru ball deep penetrator seems to be at least a little bit harder...
