Looking for advice or ideas on what I can do.
The project: Bought a .308 Savage Model 10 FCP in ann HS stock. Nice gun. I wanted a 10 round detachable mag for PRS style shooting and reasonable length strings on a bench. I bought the Pacific tool and gauge stealth DBM and installed it myself. (Very slowly and carefully) The stock has an aluminum bedding block so the inletting was relatively simple just widening the bedding blocks mag well with sandpaper a wee bit, test fitting, then sanding more until it fit flush. The design is good because the depth is pre-determined by the dbm; when it sits flush the mag clicks. The aics mag fit in the dbm is excellent. no rattle or play left to right. Smooth in and out. Feeds 2 snap caps perfectly.
What I'm unsure of, is there is a lot of play forwards and back. I can wiggle the mag forwards and back and I can also pull it up and down changing the feedpath significantly. Is this normal? Anyone with a perfectly feeding Aics 10 rounder comment of this? Does your mag have front to back play? Can you seat the mag, then push it up a bit? If I pull the mag down after it clicks in, the bolt has what looks like a 10th of an inch (1-2) mm. If I push up on the mag, it moves up juuuust enough for the feedlips to drag on the bolt.
With a full mag, the cartridges push the mag fully down so there is no rubbing against the bolt at all.
The problem:
Feeding a full mag at the range, often 4-10 rounds'ish will jump up and bind the bolt. I then pull back on the bolt a bit, the round then lies flat so I can push the round forward fully.
I only have the one magazine as the others are on backorder. I filled the magazine 4 times and the results were the same each time. First and last rounds fed fine, those in the middle sometimes jammed.
FYI I diy'ed an Atlasworx aics dbm in 223 into a 700 using tje same process and my work was bloody perfect.
I would have hoped that there was no play in the seating of the mag up/down or tilt forward/back. But here I am.
