So I have lots of AR mags, was thinking of selling my 2 new unused metal SKS 5/30 duckbill metal mags, and 5/75 duckbill metal drum to buy this kit.

Does a pinned 5 round .223 AR mag hold five 7.62 rounds?

Thoughts, opinions please?

Sorry 7.62x39 used in my SKS was wondering the round count in a .223 pinned AR mag.

And lastly, how does the adapter function?

Thanks

First off not enough info
7.62X39 or 51?
You talking beuwolf mags?

I'm going to attemp and answer your question and say no

Well kinda a dumb post. How many 762x51 SKS you know? and how are you able to fit 762x51 ammo in 223 mags. When ones 6mm longer. Pretty obvious hes talking x39.

No it would only hold around 3 -4 rounds. Use XCR 7.62x39 mags 10rd of 762x39 legal.

X39 probably would not stack nor shoot well out of .223 mags anyway. But as suggested XCR 10 round pistol mags are available, probably the one biggest reason why this adapter was made in the first place.

I don't have the conversion so can't comment on performance but it is on my list.

If you post this in the red rifle section you might get a better response. This is the M14. FN FAL. G3, Large 30 cal main battle rifle section.

EDIT.

OK nevermind I haven't actually fully inserted a PMag since I was goofing around originally with getting all the angles on my adapter worked out.

PMag fits but the action binds up after the bolt slams home and the magazine has to be released

Back to question about 7.62x39mm feeding from a 5.56mm magazine and the capacity, only 3 rounds fit.

I don't have any dummy rounds in x39 so as far as functionality I cannot speak for it right now.

I can give it try next time I get out to the range, hopefully this weekend.

I would be waiting a bit before dropping money on LAR mags, considering the current state of affairs with the beowolf mags.

Marketed for a pistol or not, i can see a notice saying any magazine loaded with more than 5 rounds is illegal being released soon. Or they'll call them dual purpose like they just did with the Beo. Isn't that what they said about the 20 round AIA enfield mags too, that they originally approved and then later rejected for importation?

Also to the OP, what's wrong with stripper clips? With some practice it's at least as quick as a mag change if not faster... and no expensive parts that require modifying your receiver.

Agreed I have no optics so think I will stay with the 5/30 round mags and drum I have in 7.62x39 and not do the adapter, I just have lots of pinned AR mages.

Thanks

Stripper clips suuuuck, rounds fall off of them, you aint loading the full 10 so putting half a clip back in a pouch/ect is a pain in the ass.

AR/XCR mags and pouches are the way to go. Simplicity on top additional capacity with thousands of pouch options.

Ill post again soon with your answer to the magazine question.

I recently finished the conversion on mine. Figured it was the best option after I installed a wartak rail. Had fun doing it (a bit of work involved). Had it out for the first time on Remembrance Day. Runs like a dream. I would definitely recommend doing this conversion but take your time and have the proper tools on hand(dremel, assorted bits, different files/rasps). Contact Dave @hical.ca if you have any issues. He helped me out a bunch with mine as the pictures in the instructions are hard to make out. Plus the xcr mags are only 30 bucks apiece(cheaper than tapco/baur 5 rounders)and easier to swap out.

Mmkay here it is now, just got the upper handguard to swap over.

Cant wait to get it out this weekend! :D

ATI Strikeforce Side Folding Stock
HiCal XCR Pistol Mag Adapter.
Bushnell 3200 3-9x on a Wartak Scope Rail.
Bipod/Vert Grip combo, cheapo but hey it works for my basic softcore uses haha.
NcStar Light/Laser combo just for picture mall ninja factor.......for some reason it just wont die.
Internal rubber recoil buffers.
Haven't messed with internal springs, trigger or anything so far.

From another thread, here's how the gun performed using the mag adapter in the factory stock.

30 round group left, 2 1/4" shootin every 2-3 seconds or so, another 20 on the right 1 1/4" on surplus ammo, this target I was using the bipod on a bench.

Lower string was just sighting in tuning. Target was setup at 75 yards.

Thanks, gee 3 rounds of .223 is not much. :(

Alright buddy I had a great day out at the range today and here are some video's for you.

First is me just letting rounds fly down range just to show off the gun and make a racket.

Next up is me testing 7.62x39mm ammunition fed from a 5.56mm PMag in the SKS with the XCR adapter.

Fires no problem, ejects no problem. Has to be inserted on open bolt and I only have the one mag around and it did not engage the bolt hold open.

Can't hear me at times but oh well who cares the visual lets ya see everything in motion.

The trick to stripper clips is to only load 5 per clip. Then you don't have that issue of popping the 6th round off the clip that won't fit in the mag or having to put away a half full clip for later.
