Savage 93 BTVS, just got it last week.

When pushing the bolt forward the round gets jammed... but if you press up in the mag it feeds perfectly. let go, the mag drops a hair, then jams. I've tried CCI and winchester rounds and both bullets jam.

Any ideas?

I had the very same issues with my new Savage 93FV in 22WMR when I first bought it....bent the blade that the mag slides onto forward a little bit , this raised the front of the mag up a bit and no more feeding issues .

I would like to say I thought of this but actually got the info off of
rimfirecentral.com :)

Is it the mag/round that's jamming, or is it the back end of the bolt rubbing on the stock? I had a similar problem with mine, and it was being caused by the bolt rubbing. the stock was/is not an absolutely perfect fit for the gun and I found that once bolted down there was no clearance between bottom of the bolt and the stock. To fix this, I custom cut a couple of washers to fit in the stock where the bolt posts are and then reattached the stock to the rifle. This raised the rifle up in the stock about 1/8 of an inch, therefore relieving the bolt from rubbing.

My 93 had the same problem, due to the mag being sloppy. My solution was the same as chalkriver, although I still sometimes have to push up on the mag to get a round to chamber.

I've found with some guns (both my 93FV .22WMR, and my CZ452 .17HMR) that having a full, 5-round mag sometimes caused some difficulty chambering the first. In both cases, loading #5 always seemed to take a little more effort and when you looked at the loaded mag, the nose of that first round seemed a little low. Loading 4 or less, no problem...the business-end seemed angled-up as it should be. I never messed with either gun, and just used 4~they're for hunting anyway.

That reminds me, even my Anschutz .22 (1450) has a problem loading the first round in my 10-round mags, so I load 9 in them too, or just use the 5 rounders. In ALL the situations I described, you COULD/can load full mags, you just really needed to force the bolt forward faster for the first shot~never liked doing that.

Try a 10 round and 5 round clips, see if it happens with both. If it does you need to adjust the gun. Maybe it's just the mag.....

They dont make "clips" for these guns. They also only make 5 round MAGAZINES. On my 93r17 the mag needs to be pushed a tiny bit to the right to lock into place though not all the time. If I do that it works flawlessly.

Thanks everybody. Chalk river has solved it. I did actually tried that a few days ago and it helped, but I guess it needed a little more of a bend. I was a little nervous of bending it too much.

Thanks everybody.
