feeding issues

I have a j.c. Higgins semi auto (I think it's the 29?) that isn't feeding reliably. the rounds aren't picked up properly when the block comes back forward.

Any ideas on the cause or fix?

It's called a bolt not a block. It could be a week spring in the mag or the mag is not fitting properly

ok, wasn't sure if the terminology was the same, it's definitely block shaped! does a tube magazine make a difference? I could see how that might be the issue
