Having feeding problems with a Springfield Model 03-A3, bought a box of Federal 30.06, and would not feed from the magazine, I thought OAL, but that does no seem to be the problem. The round seems to sit too far back for the bolt to pickup. Comments?

I do not own a Springfield but I have, sometimes, encountered a similar problem with my Mausers. I would have to push the round slightly forward with one of my fingers, reset the bolt, and cycle the action. It fixed most of my problems.

Hope this helps.

Have you got the cut off flipped the right way? The position of the bolt appears to be where it should be when the cut-off is on. Without looking at my rifles I think the cut-off should be in the "OFF" position, then the bolt will move all the way to the back and thus feed from the magazine.
By your photo the OAL of the ammo looks good.

YES. By the looks of your photos, the bolt does not come far enough to the rear. It is in front of the clip guides. The cut off on the left side of the receiver is two position, so you can load the rifles with single rounds and keep the magazine in reserve.

Quite a common error with new Springfield owners.

Advice

Thanks for the advice never gave the cutoff a though. Hate to say it, but this looks like a Duh! question from me, oops.

Don't worry. ALL your friends will chuckle and remind you to set the magazine cut-off to the proper position the next time you are on the range, so the problem should not occur again :).

We have all been there. It's just that it is your turn, today.

Doh, here's a pic of me making this mistake in front of 3 guys.
I bought this rifle just before X-mas 09 and read everything I could
find about it online. I made a mental note to myself not to make the
mistake, and then forgot about it when I took it to the range in May
