I know a guy that is willing to trade me for his FEG 9MM with 2 mags. I have never heard of this gun and was wondering what everyone knew about it. and if you would recommend it.

let me know what you think.

FEG makes a Hi-power clone and also has made FEG P9R which is not exactly a Hi-power. It is more a marriage between S&W and Hi-power which is a double action with decocker as opposed to Hi-power single action. Basically they are lower grade manufacturing, falling in the category of $300-400 guns. For P9R which I owned, the accuracy is acceptable for a service pistol. I hope that this might help you.

This photo is my FEG High-Power clone. On the outside the FEG has a better finish than most current High-Powers but the interior is rougher. In the end, I would opt for a FN High-Power but I would not feel unarmed with a FEG as they are good solid performers. Regards, Richard:)

2 things; It's important to know that FEG makes 2 guns which are available in Canada in 3 variations.

They are actually very good guns, but I would only buy the single action varients.

1~ a straight clone of a Belgian 1960's "T" series. All parts interchangeable "except" the manual safety (you have to ream the hole to accept a Belgian safety). Imported in the late 80s & early 90s by Century arms.

2~ Recent imports of the P9 Single action are a modified BHP using a S&W type barrel cam rather than the traditional bar cam of the BHP. Imported @2002-05 & seen at TSE in Calgary. Genereally identifiable by having an extended or ambi safety

3~ P9R "double action". Basically a hammer drop safety Hi-Power slide on a S&W 59 frame. No parts or mags are interchangeable with any other gun. Was available in Canada chambered in 9mm, but imported into the US in 9, 40 & 45acp. Imported in the late 80s & early 90s by Century arms. Now a clone of this gun is being imported by MARSTAR mfg by Norinco

FEGs seem to get mixed reviews. Some people like them, others say they are unreliable pieces of junk made of poor quality steel. As with most things, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

One thing that you might want to keep in mind is that in Canada, the difference between the price of a FEG and that of a real FN/Browning Hi-Power is not as great as in the U.S. (where Hungarian clones sell for less than half the price of the real BHP). In my humble opinion, you'd be better off spending a little more and getting the real deal.

EDIT: I see that you're contemplating a trade. What does the other guy want in return for his FEG?

You have read my posts and seen my handguns; do you think I would keep a pistol that is junk? FEG High-Power clones are far from junk, they are just an inexpensive alternative to the real deal. Regards, Richard:)
