FEG Hi Power - Safety is Unconvincing

Hi all

I have a FEG P9M, which is a faithful reproduction of the Browning Hi Power, but I'm finding that the safety isn't really confidence inspiring. Don't get me wrong, it functions and it hasn't ever come off accidentally but I'm still a little leery about carrying it in condition one especially if I'm using it in competition and under a timer.

I pulled the safety apart and made sure the ball and detent were clean and functioning properly, and they are. It's just that the detent pockets are pretty puny.

Does anyone know if aftermarket options work with the FEG and if so will it fix this? I might consider swapping over to the cylinder and slide safety fast shooting hammer system or one of their extended safeties if they fit the FEG.

One of the things I like about the Norinco NP22 copy of the Sig Sauer is the lack of a manual safety.

My Walther P-1 has a safety, and when it's in the safe position, it reminds me the pistol is empty.

A carry over from the French bolt action rifles.

I should also add that I leave the chamber empty until I am ready to shoot.

It turns out that the hole in the FEG frame that the safety shaft inserts into is slightly smaller than the standard Browning HP, which means some metal removal is required to fit an after market safety.

Maybe a stronger spring might be in order.
