Does anyone know the exact barrel length of the Femaru 37M? I always thought it was 4", but I saw a website that put it at 110mm. Other sites I've checked have it all over the place, does anyone know the official figure? I suspect 4" is accurate, but I've always been fascinated by the gun and if I can get one of the Hungarian-issued ones in .380 as a non-12.6 I'd go so far as to import one. I've only even seen the German-issued .32s up here, which would of course be 12.6 regardless of length.

Tiriaq, I have this awful feeling that you're serious about that.

So if it's a .32, it's illegal.

And if it ISN'T a .32, it's STILL illegal?!?!

And yet each and every Government we have had keeps on saying that they aren't going to attack our sports shooting, hunting, target shooting and so forth. So instead they just ban everything that Wendy doesn't like and if you change your LEGAL PROPERTY to a more politically-correct form.... it's STILL illegal. What an absolute can of worms!

Where in the Constitution does the federal government find its powers to ban PROPERTY? Property is PROVINCIAL and the feds have no part of it.

This no longer makes any sense at all.

And this is no longer a free country by any stretch of the imagination.

The way the 12(6) business is worded, short barrelled pistols, other than .25s and .32s, can be reclassified as restricted if longer barrels are installed. Unfortunately, because of the way it is worded, .25s and .32s remain prohibited even with a caliber change.
Rudy H. has been through this.

there rebarreling pp and ppks to 380 , why would it be different?/

A .380 can be rebarrelled with a longer barrel and reclassified as restricted.
A .32 can be rebarrelled with a longer .380 barrel, but remains prohibited.

At one time, .25s and .32s could be rebarrelled and reclassified - then someone read the law carefully, and that stopped.
Have a look at the law.

This is Canada!

Laws don't have to make any sense, since they are the law.

If laws started to make sense, our entire justice system would fall apart :runaway:

The FRT shows one version with a 98mm barrel as prohibited (FRT 18988-4), and a 110mm barrel as restricted (FRT 18988-5). I guess someone has converted or found a longer barreled .380. Just imagine how much safer the world is with those extra 12mm!

I understand that if there is an entry in a given cartridge for a gun then it is still possible to do?

I got to handle one stateside, and I think re-barreling one would be a difficult proposition even if you could get around the legalities. The barrels are an interesting design that I think would be difficult and costly to replicate. As far as guns go, they are horrible little pistols, too. Heavy trigger, crude machining, subpar safety. As historical pieces they are pretty neat, though.
