Every year we try and get down to Ridgeway, Ontario on June 02 to mark the Anniversary of the Battle of Ridgeway - 1866.
cantom and myself show-up for 07:00 hours to mark when the battle began.
Sometimes we run into others from the Queens Own Rifles or the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry, but lately that seems to be only on rare occasions.
I have been doing this myself for many years and a few years back cantom joined up with me.
It is the least we can do to preserve the memory and pay our respects.
I must say that travelling the battleground of today is a very solemn place.
It is a stretch to visualize everything when you are looking at modern day homes and farms of 2021, but all you have to do is close your eyes and imagine what it was like on that very hot day on June 02 1866.
Afterwards, I usually do my grand tour of the War of 1812 historical places that are close by, Lundy's lane, Queenston Heights and Niagara on the Lake - Fort George.
cantom and I am fortunate that these places and many others are so close by to where we reside.
