Hey folks,

I asked this in another forum and was told to post this here.

I’ve been looking around for a light to mount on my 870, just not sure which ones would withstand the recoil. I’ve been focussing on the Fenix brand as of late mainly because of the price point and high lumen output. I think I like the TK 15 UE be I’m curious if anyone around here has any experience with it?

I don’t want a Surefire fore end as I would like to be able to use the flashlight for other purposes as well

Cheers,
Chris

I have the TK-20R as my light I got the fenix quick latch mount to go with it for the rail. It seems to be holding up I have only shot about 8 rounds with it on however as I don't really have a need to keep a light on my gun (usually only when camping in the back woods) Its also nice to be able to move it to other guns with rails.

For your needs and price point, you would be well served with a Surefire G2X or 6PX. Fenix lights are not designed to handle firearms recoil.

I had a Fenix TK10 on a 20 gauge 870 for a while and now its on a 12 gauge. It works fine and Fenix sells the remote tail switch for it and mount so I think they intend for it to be on a firearm.

I run a Fenix on 2 of my 870 and 1 on my AR-15 no issues at all. One of my 870 has just over 900 rds of 00 Buck/Slugs through it while the light has been installed. Zero issues.

I’m curious as to why they design mounts for there flashlight as well then

Airsoft, hobbies, etc.. Light caliber firearms like a .22 at most. If you notice on their website, main page, guy holding his M4....the light is in his hand...for me that's a clue. Their product descriptions for some of their "tactical" lights like the TK25 are very careful not to indicate for weapons use, another clue. Yes they make accessories like the mount and remote pressure switch but those can be used for other things.

I don't dispute people's positive experiences with them on their guns, but you're asking for a very specific product and purpose, and there aren't that many companies around that make dedicated weapon lights of a quality that you can depend on. There was a time when even SF handheld lights were much more expensive than most of their competitors. Now, there is really no excuse to afford the best as their prices have come down alot in the past few years, and power has gone through the roof.

I did at one point own a Fenix TK10? It was, at the time alot cheaper than an SF handheld light of similar power which is why I bought it. It failed in the first year of very light duty use (handheld) and the hoops I had to jump through with their customer service was disgusting for a light that I paid around $100 for. Another plus and reason why SF gives you what you pay for; lifetime warranty and no BS customer service.

Myself, I don't leave anything to chance when it comes to something my life may depend on. Everything else is a compromise.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I might try a Fenix. I talk to one of there representatives and he said that they are tested on and designed for use on a firearm and would be covered by warranty if damaged due to use on a firearm.
