Feral pigs in BC now fair game!

I've never actively looked for them there but I've spent a fair amount of time in the area with an eye open. Never saw hide nor hair, just stories from what I can tell.

Im thinking of setting up a new 6.8 spc build for these little(often big) bastards. I think people do it with .223 but its one of those iffy areas..

Edit: Don't know if the .223 would be enough for some of those bigger bacon strips

My buddy had pigs get out and go "wild" and breed unchecked their farm in southern BC long ago. His old man was pissed with the damage they do so it was open season for hogs on their ranch year round. One time we came across several pigs rooting up a small oat field up in the hills while we were cruising around and happened to have my .30-06 in the pickup. A short stalk, a good rest and boom, hog down :) Turned out to be a boar pig and being single young guys renting a place, we took him to a local butcher thinking we were all smug and self sufficient. I can still remember that first frying pan of bacon. The smell was..."interesting" and the taste took some getting used to but we toughed it out. Even tried taking some "pork" home but my parents wouldn't touch it. The old man told me that now I might understand why we nutted boar hogs and never butchered a breeding boar, lol. Lesson learned.
 
The presence of feral domestic pigs or released wild boars has been discussed on Huntingbc as long as I've been following the site and except for BC Bigbore's above report, I've never seen a report of a sighting or shooting of one.
