FERFRANS CRD Muzzle Device System

The CRD works great on my 7.62x39 AR , the brake works well and when you don't want a lot of side concussion or when lying on the ground I slip the blast condom on :) it isn't that heavy especially on short barreled ARs.

The CRD is really heavy, I wanted one first but they were back ordered, so in the mean time I bought the Griffin Armament blast shield. Just about a week ago the CRD's were back in stock so I ordered one, now I have both and the CRD feels twice as heavy as the Griffin blast shield.

The CRD does have a really nice locking mechanism, but it is very heavy

Also not to happy to see "made in Taiwan" on the CRD box :( American company out sourcing to Asia is not really my thing

Which one did you prefer?

I didn't even know CTCS got the GA Blast Shields... hummm.

I like a few things about each

The CRD has a nice locking mechanism that feels more sturdy then the blast shield, it feels heaver as a complete unit, you can only use it with their muzzle brake. The finish on it isnt as nice as the Griffin IMO.

The Griffin blast shield fits 4 different muzzle devices they sell or other A2's, its got a cool shape to it and I like the extra machine times to put the flutes in the sides, I like the laser etched logos on both the shield and all the muzzle devices, I prefer the look of their metal coating over the CRD's. It feels lighter. The locking mech has more movement in it, isnt as sturdy as the CRD(but I believe that is where the extra weight comes from on the CRD)

Both really cool, I dont know if I could decide between the 2 yet as I havent been able to try them back to back yet. I am keeping both will probably keep the blast shield on my MK18, and I am building a 7.5" Noveske barreled PDW, that I will probably stick the CRD on

Thanks for the review JohnnyP636 - I haven't even run the devices through their paces.

No problem I'll try to get some video when I get out to a range with them, currently my range is under renovations to be able to shoot rifle calibers. For now I have to get an invite to other ranges and drive pretty far to shoot my rifle.

Do you know from your store what is the hotter seller between the 2?

I might as well just get my pay check direct deposit to you guys LOL Ive been ordering something like once a week or 2

I've been trying to figure out what to put on the SBR Tavor, and both the FerFrans and the Griffin are in the running.

The other brakes keep trying to pull the snot out of my nose! Considering your face is about a foot from the muzzle at that point, the blast shield has a real advantage.

Love my CRD! So do the shooters standing beside me. Too heavy? Not on a SBR. This thing looks and operates awesome. Sends all concussion down range with no muzzle climb. A little on the pricey side but worth it IMO. Giant fireballs!

Hands down the FerFrans has been outselling the Griffins and Lantac 2 to 1.

Also - thanks for your business!

Nobody said "too heavy" just an observation having both in my hands that the CRD felt "heavier". And it could just be my imagination as I have not weighed them. Just when I got the box I was like wow this one feels heavier then the other

Somewhere on here and ttag, they did a huge comparison between all the muzzle devices. I think the ferfans wasnt rated very good for reducing recoil and mitigating recoil

You're thinking of this article, and they tested the CRD both as just a standalone brake and with the blast shield attached.

They didn't test the Lantac or anything from Griffin Armament.

With the blast cover installed they do get further push, but that's only telling half the story.

It's really cool looking, that's for sure.

I like it, but I'd question whether I'd ever take the shield off. Ran a break on my SBR's before.
At my range, something about the acoustics . . . it's fun for the first few shots, then you get over the feeling of being punched in the back of the head repeatedly.

If you never take it off, you might as well get a Dlask or ATRS for half the price. Or even an S&J for a fraction the price and weight.

My S&J works great on my 12". Comps well, fireballs, and makes the end of your barrel look like a minigun.

Agreed! I ran mine with the shield off and made a mistake of firing with my mouth open. It rattled my teeth somthing fierce, I had a tooth ach for days. There are those who say fack it, I don't care who's beside me, I want a loud SBR. I prefer to not be that guy and God dam it looks cool.

Love mine...

Like any piece of kit there are advantages and disadvantages to it. I wont be getting rid of mine any time soon.
