I know it's been asked 20 gazilion times.
Still have not set my mind up.

is the ret going to be too large to target at max magnification on a FFP?

I MUCH prefer FFP for LR shooting, as I also MUCH prefer a MIL reticle scope for that, but am AOK with SFP for a hunting scope.

Interestingly, I've found that FFP has taught me that I don't need as much magnification as I thought I needed for LR hits; I feel it's not about the reticle subtention, but about finding that sweet spot where you can see the mirage, and holding steady. Aim small, miss small is becoming aim WELL, miss small... the more I practice.

it really depends on the magnification of your scope, for a High Pwer magnification I can see the point of having FFP, but for 1-6 and intended for midrange, will go with SFP, its hard to get a clear picture in a FFP in a 2-3x magnifcation.

Well you can do the math quite easily at other key magnifications....

Ya provided you know EXACTLY. Where on the dial this magnifications are . High end scopes will be pretty close but others may not . Seems like a lot of effort to do sit there and do all that math and conversion. Math isn't quick or fun so what do it ? I shot SFP scopes for a while then made the conversion to FFP, mil mil, no math no hassle and I don't have to #### around knowing exactly where 1/2, 1/4 power are exactly on the magnification dial

Second focal plane for long range shooting for me. No math required with the online reticle calculators. Set your magnification and secondary hashmarks are yardage indicated. It doesn't get any simpler than that. I like simple.

what type of shooting are you doing, square range with known distances or quick shots using holdovers at unknown ranges?
