What do you guys think of them? More specifically the snap-on magnetic type.

I have the bad luck of being right handed and having a weak right eye, so I thought a fiber optic front sight might be a good thing for me.

Also, do you know of a CGN affiliated dealer that has some in stock? I looked around but didn't see any. I have a good old 870.

Thanks

i love fibre optics, i would recomend. Now, what do you do to compensate for the weak eye? my wife has the same problem and im trying to get her interested in shooting, but she gets very frusterated and embarassed. Do you try n shoot left handed?

i have the same problem. my dominant eye is left, i shoot right. i used to shoot left, but i have trained shooting right. really had to force it, until i am comfortable with it. i use fiber optic sights, not because of my weaker eye, but just because they are MUCH better period!

I don't do anything about it. I don't wear eyeglasses or lens. My eye is not that bad, it just gets tired fast.

May not be the way you want to go, but, either close your left eye or cover the left lens of your shooting glasses. With the left lens covered, you can shoot w/both eyes open & won't be as tiring.

during the off time try this...when no one is looking.

point you index finger straight in the air and arms length. Bring it straight to your nose, without trying to touch your nose. You finger will inherently go slightly towards you dominent eye.

Now, once you done that a couple times, bring your finger in to your weaker eye. When it touches your nose on the weak side.. stop. You will now be starring across your nose with your dominent eye. If you doubt that, close both eye one at a time. Whichever changes the image the most, is clearly(or not so clearly) you weakest eye. Whichever image keeps it clearest is the strong eye.

now practice slowly bringing you finger in and following it with your weakest eye. This might seam very easy to do and not worth practicein. but it you follow these every once in a while, you will slowly be able to control weak eye easier. The trick is to practice it until your brain can do it with out you thinking about it. It's easy to do when you are trying to to it. but you'll be suprised how quickly you default to using your dominent eye.

janesy's description of the dominent eye is best I have read in a long time.

My own opinion is that a sight on a shot gun is good for precise aiming at a stationary target and some may be successful aiming at moving targets. I think that some of the best wingshooters are those who train to instinctivly point at the target. A fielder can catch a fly ball no matter which is his dominent eye or which is his strong hand. He does not need to close either eye. Right dominent or left dominent, sitting on the left side or the right side a driver can drive the centre of a lane with both eyes open and neither eye focused on any part of the vehicle, especially not focused on the hood ornament or sight. A fielder or a driver can train to where can feel the correct movement and so can a wingshooter.

I shoot right handed and am also left eye dominant. Finally, after shooting left handed and trying different things, the army started teaching shooting with both eyes open. After some practice and a little getting used to, I find that I don't notice the left eye dominance issue while shooting right handed. It is just instinctive now.

As far as fiber optic sights go... my newest duck gun, a Mossy 835, came with a red one and I absolutely love it. Thinking about adding a fiber optic front sight to my 870 Express.
