fiber optic shotgun sight cheap mod?

Hi,

I bought an Asil Bulldog shotgun from Corwin arms. The front sight is an elevated post that was clearly meant to be fitted with a fiber optic "tube". Corwin says that the fiber inserts were notorious for breaking in the cold weather, which justifies that they don't ship with it.

I would to get you guys opinion on that! Is the fiber too brittle?

Are these fiber optic tubes ll of a standardized size? Any recommendation on what to buy to make myself one? Or should I take my shotty to a smith?

Look at the front post, you'll get the idea. I would need a fiber of about 7mm long and 2mm diameter to insert in the mount

Martin is correct, mine arrived broken off when I received it. The fibre optic bits are available in different diameters, you can buy them in small packs in different colors as well.

I have never had trouble with fiber optics in cold weather, but I don't have the shotgun you have. If you go on ebay you can buy 6" of the rod for $3. Warm one end with a lighter to swell it, push it into the sight, trim with nail clippers, and warm the other end to lock it in place. 6" will give you many inserts and it's extremely easy to use.

You will need to get a accurate measurement of the diameter you need, but there are a few standard sizes so you should be able to figure it out.

I'd ask Corwin to send you the correct fiber in the mail should be cheap for the first one but buys some spares if you can

If you really have to have the fiberoptic front sight then get Martin to send one. I am surprised he didn't just do it anyway.

Personally, I find fiber optic sights to be a distraction rather than an aid. They are more lures for the shooter than realistic.

The stuff on Amazon.ca is much more expensive and I didn't want to ruin a couple sights trying to fit it in there.

Prices range but find out the diameter you need, I have a couple sizes I could send you a piece for free if I have the right diameter and colour.

Breaking during shipping is just shoddy packaging.

I have broken some FO's during IPSC on a shadow but they are far from delicate eggshells that corwin lead us to believe.
