Fiber optic sight?

I,m in the process of mounting a Weigand rear sight blade and a E.G.W. fiber optic front sight on my S&W 624.I was wondering what is the best way to secure the fibre optic rod to the front sight? Just to see what I could do with the revolver sans sights I stepped outside and fired a few shots.I was able to roll a "Just Shoot Me Products" all around target which is a plastic ball about 6" in dia. down the range no problem.But the distance was short so I tried 5 shots at a 12" gong at 40m. got 4 out of 5.Just put the plate on the top of ramp.

Aha! So that's what I'm doing wrong -- trying to aim!
