I'm considering constructing a honkin' fiberglass moose call. Nothing like the wimpy birch-bark cone types, but rather the oversized cow-horn shaped ones.

Thinking of making the full shape out of sacrificial foam and then laminating different layers of fiberglass cloth on top. Has anyone ever tried making one of these? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There's a product out there you can buy that is exactly like you describe. They aren't cheap though.

Thank you iluvmy300, the product from the link you provided (or rather the associated pricetag...) was my DIY inspiration.

BTW, i love my 300 too!

$129..yikes:eek:
Seems like a lot of money for a moose call.
But it is custom designed for the wariest of bulls!

Ken capling makes two sizes of fibreglass calls. Check with the ofah. I saw them for $99 a while ago.

I have had the same highway safety cone for the last 30 years it is tough and has never let me down. The orange has faded to a dull pinky/orange but you will never lose it. takes a beating won't break.

All you need is one of those "crazy carpets" that the kids use for sliding down hills in thee winter time.
Tape it uup with duct tape andd Bob's yer uncle!
Works great ( freind of mine uses oone) .
It can also be used forr skidding stuff.....

Guys all ya need is a graves apple juice can or any type that you can get, the large can type, poke a small hole in the bottom, take a cotton shoe lace tie a knot in one end, thread threw the hole, viola, when you want to use it pour a small amount of water, like 1/2 once into can let string get wet, hold at arms length, pull sting, the perfect moose call, also use to imitate a urinating bull, by filling full of water and pouring out into swamp. Been using it for years, and works great, small compact, fits in a small pack.

I built my own fiberglass moose call last fall for about 20$. I used a fiberglass boat repair kit from Canadian Tire and a road cone as a mold. Sprayed the cone with Pam and covered with 2-3 layer of fiberglass. The sound is real good (to me anyway!) and it sounds even better when rattling on trees and shrubs. Give it a try.

Thanks, that's exactly the kind of info I was looking for!
