Hi everyone.
I have just acquired a Henry H012 all weather, in .357/.38. She is adorable, in all regards, excepting the semi-buckhorn sights. I'm no longer 20, and I simply cannot focus close enough to use the black on black irons.
Although a red dot of some kind would likely be best for my application, the damage to the aesthetic is beyond my capacity at present, and the "good" replacement sights (Skinner, for example) seem to be out of availability or reasonable cost on this side of the 49th parallel.
I see both TruGlo and Hi Viz make replacement sight sets for this rifle, which I suspect would likely function for my purposes (20 years experience of using handguns with irons and tritium dots, so I expect the three dot view would be pretty reflexive, for a planned 100 yard gun, in comparison to my previous duty pistol experience).
I have some concerns about how robust the TruGlo or Hi Viz options are - internet legends seem to be 80% "They're great!", followed by 20% "They're junk! Broke when I farted too loud!", so I was hoping that there may be some here with actual experience with these sight systems? I appreciate any lore you might pass along.
*I have also posted this query on the optics thread, but crickets over there, so far, which is why I seek your wisdom here, now.
Thanks in advance for any insight! (pun intended).
