Not really game but a still a wild food that goes well with fish or game. These came from the other side of the Rockies in BC so they aren't as fresh as I normally like them but they sure hit the spot (steamed 5 minutes and tossed in salt and butter) with the first fresh tomatoes from the farmers market and some thick cut hickory smoked pork chops. Not mention the "Pride of Nova Scotia" -- Keith's India Pale Ale.:tu

We got a few pail's of them this year. Tasty little buggers they are. I had a feast with mine with a trout from the back yard. I think I was drinking moose head.

Fiddleheads are in season here in early may, all ferned up by june. I did get a few feeds. Anyone freeze them? I might try that next year. Also heard you can pickle them too. Anyone doing this?

I freeze them all the time! Never tried pickling them tho  let me know if you tried and how it turned out I am curious. I love pickling :D

I love fiddleheads. I use to pick tons with my parents when I was younger. Mothers day if I remember was the week- end for picking them. We had a great place along the river until a huge flood tore the shreds out of all the ground where they grew, and they never grew back  Any one in the Montreal area know of a good picking spot, please let me know.

Sounds like a new addition to canning this Fall.

Never heard of anyone canning them. We always ziplocked them. I think vacume pack is the way to go.
