Written by Steven Hill and published online Jan 8, 2019, it shows the world record for moose was taken by Rex Nick in the Lower Yukon River area of Alaska in 2010. https://www.fieldandstream.com/8-big-game-world-records-hunters-may-never-break#page-11

The Rex Nick moose, while a monster bull, is not the world record according to Boone and Crocket. Heinz Naef who lives in Dawson City, Yukon, shot a moose in 2013 that was officially scored and verified with an official point score of 263 5/8. You can read about it here: https://www.boone-crockett.org/news/featured_story.asp?area=news&ID=186

It has been well-publicized in the hunting and shooting world, and could not have been missed by anyone doing serious research for an article. The Nick moose is not even mentioned in the B&C announcement of the new world record.

The neat thing about this was the moose was taken with a Lee-Enfield 303 British while Naef was out on a meat hunt away from home for a few days . :)

I am seriously considering hunting everything this year with a 303Br. Watch for several 300 Winchester Magnums, a 300 Weatherby, and a 375 H&H coming to the EE this year.

The 9.3X62s will meet the minimum legal requirements for bison, so they will stay.

makes you wonder how many moose with massive or at least contender sized racks that were shot with a 30/30 or 300 sav on meat hunts? theres always been the grumblings of the older generations who look at massive racks and say:

"hell, i must have left a dozen or so of that size in the bush. I cant eat the rack."

They're the same ones who said winters were colder and they walked uphill to school for 10 miles both ways.

interesting read about the 300WM being no .1 for production. Seems like a plain and effective cartrige. I dont see 6.5 creedmoor on there :D
