Field stripping with a Rauch stock adapter in place - solved!

You should be able to lift the rear of the cover high enough to clear the adaptor. I was able to when I had the RT adaptor on my rifle. The NEA railed adaptor is taller than the RT. It does have a bit more relief but I don't have any issues removing either one.

Pop the pin, push the cover towards the muzzle a bit, and lift the rear clear.

Push in on the cover and lift. Never had a problem and I've had the various versions of Rauch Tactical adapters on a couple rifles.

I will see if I can get some pics up later...but I am fairly sure this is a no-go and requires disassembly.

The only thing I can think of is if there is something awry in the receiver which is holding the dust cover down (other than not pulling the trigger of course) because the dust cover definitely can't be lifted enough to clear the adapter at this time.

I just had to try mine again.Pull pin push cover forward with right thumb.Pry cover up with left hand fingernails and it should pop right off .Good luck.if that doesn't work look for a really big screwdriver and a hammer.Thats should make it easier. hehe

In stock form, there was a couple times, even after pulling the trigger I could not remove the top cover. I for the life of me, haven't figured out why, but after cycling the action a few times and pulling the trigger again it suddenly come out smoothly.

Well, if it's sill working for other people, I guess I can assume the problem is not the adapter but my rifle.

Is it possible the threaded insert has spun further into the receiver than it's supposed to? I don't know if that would cause a problem, but I can't think of anything else that would cause a problem.

Okay, got it apart today. The issue appears to be that the tab on the carrier had broken off and was somehow jamming things together inside and preventing the dust cover from lifting up.

Total round count on tabbed carrier: approximately 200.

I never had a problem with the gremlin before, so I'm not inclined to repeat the tabbing experience...that gun went from a thousands-of-rounds-no-stoppages-gun to a 200-rounds-it's-a-gun-shaped-brick-gun.

Not surprising the tab failed...there looks like something in the range of absolutely zero penetration of the weld into the carrier.

So I will go back to running with no tab.

Thanks for the insight misanthropist, I've got a 858 on the way & I won't have the tabbing done UNLESS the gremlin shows itself.

Cheers
Jay

Same thing happened to me, first time out to the range less than 100 rounds and the action started jamming. Got home and saw the tab had broken off. Gun always ran flawlessly before this. Contacted Sean got a replacement and so far it has worked perfectly, the action cycles the way it is supposed to.

misanthropist I feel your pain. If you want I will send you an un-touched bolt carrier if you pay for shipping.
