Field stripping with a Rauch stock adapter in place - solved!

Not meant to be a #### with that.. we've tabbed ~80 carriers in the last couple months, none have broke off. Because of the shape and contact surfaces with the tab, I don't think you'd be able to knock one off if you wanted to. They definitely wouldn't fall off. As long as people doing the work stand by it, that's almost as important as the work itself. At least you can get it fixed.

I seem to remember a pretty good example on an SKS bolt of rather shabby welding coming out of your shop.

Might want to remember your own screw ups before you go highlighting any other dealers. The customers will do enough of that on their own.

misanthropist I feel your pain. If you want I will send you an un-touched bolt carrier if you pay for shipping.

That's very good of you, but to be honest this carrier is effectively untouched...there is just the tiniest bit of welding spatter on it. I probably could have pulled the tab off with a good tug with pliers.

Even the nitrocarburizing treatment seems to cover all the areas where it was welded. The whole thing is a smooth, solid black. The tab has just a tiny strip of silver.

I am hoping that mandarb11 and I are the only people with problem tabs, but if not I hope anyone else who has trouble will post it up so we can keep track of any issues.

If I have trouble with the gremlin ever, then I'll think about getting the thing tabbed again. But I never had any problems before. It was just preventative maintenance. That'll teach me...it wasn't broke, and I tried to fix it...duh...

BIG difference between grinding/filling a porous SKS carrier and having welds break off in an action.

... my customer was happy though.

s**t happens, stand by it, make it right, learn from it, move on.

I have given RT my X-Mas list of what I wanted when I fired off my CZ to him for the coating process this past month. It included his package deal stocks, sights etc, and the tabbing. When I get the carrier back, I'll try twisting it off with a pair of pliars. If it looks like it's there for life, then that'll be the end of it. ;)

Yeah, I am definitely hoping mine was a fluke (and mandarb11's).

Incidentally here are a couple of pics I just snapped of the tab.

As you can see, very little was holding it on. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. Although I guess I don't know for sure how long it lasted, just how long it took to jam the action up on me.

Yes some of the tabs were not properly welded, we're offering full exchange so no worries. Just drop me an email and we'll take care of it. Going forward we've fixed the welding problem.
