Filled my doe tag

Don't be too hard on yourself...it can happen to ANYONE.

The good thing is you found her, and ended her as quickly as you could.

I know some "hunters" (using the term very loosely) that would have given up the search, because its "just a doe".

Congrats on the deer, and better luck next time. :)

Agreed, sometimes things dont go quite as planned, but good on you for following through. As BEEFMAN said there are 'hunters' out there that wouldnt have looked much at all...

in nova scotia the deer season opens next friday, not hard to get a deer in my area as a small buck was run down only yards from my home. lots of deer everywhere this year.

Yup everyone makes mistakes its how you recover from said mistake that matters and I think you did a stand up job. Lesser hunters would have just let her suffer instead of putting in the hours of hard work that netted you the Doe in the end.

Good Job! got any pics?

I wish that was the case for my area my trail cams have nothing on them but squirrels, blue jays, raccoons and the odd feral cat.....I have seen 3 deer while hunting none in bow range and all Doe's..I went out yesterday to look for sign and I couldn't fine one single fresh deer track but I did find tracks from a pack of Yotes at least 10-12 of them been seeing fresh yote tracks for the last week and a half now ..this time last year I had seen 30+deer and missed a shot on a nice buck.....don't know whats up but maybe they all moved to Nova Scotia?....lol

First off congrats on your persistance and dispatching and recovering this animal, many would have turned away when it got inconvenient and let this doe go to waste. Secondly good on you for telling the story. I've been there and had to track wounded animals, it happens regardless of how well planned out the shot is. It's important for hunters new to the sport to realize that they ain't all bang-flops.

I'd hunt with you anytime! Your persistance to get the job done & desire to end the deer's suffering IS impressive.

We all eat meat, sometimes taking responsibility for it is very very humbling.

Cheers

Good going. What you do when the going gets tough is what defines you. It's not always pretty. I'm sure it's not always pretty in the slaughterhouse too - anything can go wrong. Don't let it put you off bowhunting, though - you just proved yourself at it every bit as much as ten double-lungs in a row!

I've missed enough chances myself to even release the arrow (or bullet for that matter) because of brush. I try to be pretty aware of it in the half light. I'll let your story be a lesson to me on it too.

Well done Treebutcher. Things go sideways sometimes, and what you do when it happens says more about your skill as a hunter then when everything goes right.

Glad you found her. Post the pic if you can.

Congrats on the deer, I'm sure it's not the way you wanted it to work out, but you held out and found her in the end.

If you've butchered on the farm, you know that things can go sideways even when things are carefully staged.
