Went out yesterday afternoon with my friend, I wasn't feeling it but decided not to be a big baby. Glad I went. Got in my stand on treeline around 3, looking into the sun. This guy showed up at 4:20 hot after a doe.

I held off till she had him right in front of me at 250 yards. A bit of a case of mistaken identity, I've been gunning for an older buck with more mass that I've been watching for 2 years, but the same rack. Sun was in my face, glassed him and counted points and thought he was my guy. But really, I wouldn't have passed even if I'd recognized he wasn't the bigger guy. Perfect hit with the .338 Federal, he didn't go 10 steps. We had him at the butcher an hour and 20 minutes after I dropped him. Nice to not track, just drive up and get him in the truck after a quick dress. He taped at 154 3/4", and was 160# hanging in cooler. Big body. Of course I tweaked my back loading him, even with help.

Shot him from treeline behind me in picture

Thanks, yeah I'm pretty damn pleased, he's my best whitetail by a fair margin. He's really symmetrical too, the variance from one side to other was minimal. I really like those dark antlers too, he will make a nice euro mount.

Got the tenderloins trimmed up and currently marinating in my Special Sauce...brown sugar, coarse ground pepper, salt, garlic powder, paprika, and a half cup of a smoky Islay whisky. Will pan fry/ sear in butter.

This is the view from my stand. They came out on my right at 180 yards and cut diagonal across field. He was straight in front when I shot him.

I'm shooting 200 gr Trophy Bonded Tips, at 2625 fps. Very accurate, and kills stuff very effectively. Also mild recoil, with my arthritic shoulders that's important.
