Can you tack weld screw holes on the barrel with a mig or does it still put too much heat. I could put a heat sink on it to blead off some heat as well and go slow then finish it smooth.
Or put the screws in and tack the tops and finish it smooth?

What methods do you use?

Thanks

If you are going to weld, a wire gun is the best for that. Less heat into the barrel and the wire blue pretty close to the barrel steel... don't use stainless wire on a blue gun and conversely.:D

You can also drill the hole so there are no threads left, drive a snug fitting plug in and file and polish it to the contour.

If I am going to armacoat or powdercoat the rifle afterward would there be any thing wrong with filling the holes with marine-tex epoxy?
Kind of sounds cheezy to me personally and would probably prefer to do a metal fix but its something to consider!

+1 for alberta tactical rifle

I don't know about powder coating but with armacoat, you will not see the difference where the hole have been filled with epoxy or so, glue the screw in red loctite, fill with JB WELD (very hard, you can even stick your screw in it) or so then sandblast and paint
