Filming IPSC

OK, I could see that...
CFO did NOT ban video, but does use a YouTube vid from a QC club to make trouble.
So clubs ban video to avoid issues...

This...

6 years ago, we had the NB CFO (Gone now - thank heavens!) use a YouTube video from an NB member shooting the IPSC nationals here in Halifax to claim that we were doing unsafe things at our range in NS. Fortunately, we had a common-sense CFO who quickly told NB that the camera angles invalidated the argument.

Ask the club rep and explain the purpose of your video (promise private use - NO Dumbtube or Crackbook...) and they may make an exception.

Youtube - where the world goes to incriminate itself...

I have never heard of this! If it is from a club ruling, that is sending the shooting sports backwards not forwards. I do not believe that the CFO or local police have the authority to tell a club that they cannot video tape sanctioned matches, so I do not believe that this is the case. There are no laws stating that shooting sports cannot be photographed or video taped, so I believe that this is a club thing.

From what I understand now. The CFO here QC is using videos as 'proof' of unsafe practices to shut down clubs. We are talking about QC here so any common sense is out of the question.

The CFO is not telling the clubs not to video tape but like everyone else can watch it on YouTube;)

A few years ago I asked my club if I could take pictures / video of an IPSC practice, and asked if I should speak to the shooters to see if it was ok. He turned around and yelled "if anyone has any problems with some pictures go the f#$k home".
But yeah, I can see how video on youtube could reflect negatively on a range. I know my range has banned a few members due to youtube videos with gross incompetence and breaking range rules.
Most IPSC shooters locally are lowkey, and have their videos private or not public knowledge.

Video is not permitted as evidence in many sports because due to lighting, camera angles and other elements it doesn't show the whole picture.
That's been well established.

I'm 100% sure that the IPSC clubs in Quebec (just like the ones in the rest of the country) are running competitions that are safe and easily within the approved range standing orders of the facility they are in. In person, they have nothing to hide.

Unfortunately; a video of a shooter from a competition could be misconstrued as doing something unsafe or against the approved circumstances for the particular range facility if that video is at the wrong angle & doesn't show important things and when faced with a government department that has both the intent and power to shut you down; it's probably best to not give them something they can misconstrue.

maybe someone knows there's a mole or two running around trying to cause some shyt...
can't gather assuming video if taping isn't allowed...heresay is just that, video surveillance is another

I think that's exactly it. The CFOs are looking for videos of Canadians doing dumb things with guns, and if the range can be identified, the range suffers.

IPSC is soooooooooo dangerous.

Look at how many shooters and spectators are injured at every match...
The statistics for the past decades are horrifying. f:P:

Thank God we have the CFO to spend our tax monies to address such screaming urgent matters. It would be a real shame if they wasted their energies fighting street gangs, financial fraud, tax evasion, prostitution, rapist, pedophiles, drugs, car theft, bank robbers, smugglers, poachers, hackers, domestic violence, corruption, black mailers, etc. ...

^^^^
1. Strict compliance to nanny state regulations; or

2. Shyster up and team up with Firearm owners orgs. Sue the living sh*t out of CFO, SQ & govt for every single abuse on sportsmen. Tough act with QC sheeples but the only way to end the abuse.

A quick explanation by the match director or range officer would clear up so much instead of all of us assuming things.
It sucks but it is an easy, less than ideal fix if it is the case.

OK then lets go after them... if you get the Clubs involved enough shooters might be willing to invest in the sport. I'm not rich in any sense of the word but ready to fight

That is actually the most ironic thing of all.

Shooting sports take so much heat from the government, yet their safety records are ridiculously clean.

Meanwhile plenty of other sports have competitors leaving matches in an ambulance, on a fairly regular basis.

I wonder how many claims have been made against ins. due to shooting sports injuries...?

Few I bet

When former NFA pres Dave Tomlinson (DAT) was still alive, he often pointed out that you could buy $5million coverage for $4.50 per year.

It is not about the cfo banning filming it is about the cfo reviewing stuff on the internet and closing the range. About 4 years ago a member posted himself shooting monitors at the Restigouche range. The cfo promptly decertified all our shooting bays. Coincidence perhaps but we now would prefer no filming at our range.
