Ive been buying old beat up rifles locally for the last while and have purchased three fin capture mosins. I want to add a fin capture svt but i cant find much for info on what kind of numbers were imported minus the globeco abortions..or even a price for one in good condition. Anyone have some wisdom they could share? Thank you very much!

I have a Finnish capture Globeco abortion that is nearly restored.

Mind you, it wasn't the Mohawk .303 version. This was the type that was kept in x54r but had the barrel and flash hider cut ahead of the gas block. It shoots fine as it is, but I will have to get a new barrel attached some day.

And for you Globeco enthusiasts out there, here is some memorabilia:

This is what remained of the gas block/flash hider assembly, with the artisan also attaching a new front sight to it.

Just to ask this too. An unrefurbed rifle. Suposidly having been used in the war and brought back by someone. would not have a plumb bolt or electro penciled parts correct?

Good luck in getting your hands on a Finnish Capture SVT-40. They are like hens teeth in Canada. Your biggest challenges are going to be finding one for sale. The next biggest challenge will be getting it for a reasonable price. Some above have listed previous selling prices, but I could see one going for higher as there is a extremely limited supply and a lot higher demand.

In regards to the plumb bolts and electro-penciled parts are often debated. Some say the later production SVT-40s had plumb bolts, others say it was only refurbished rifles. Part of the issue is there isn't a lot of people alive that have used these rifles before they were refurbished and those that did tend not to speak English. Another big issue with getting information on the original configuration is that since so many were refurbished only the Finnish ones seem to have escaped it and even then they mixed up parts (as since they didn't produce the rifles they had to strip some for parts for the others). This leaves a very small pool of rifles to analyse to try to glean information from (made smaller by Globeco). I am not sure about the electro-penciling but some countries at the time used it for some of their parts as it was easier than stamping (the Swedish AG-42b comes to mind). Remember that the information can change look at the triangle '2' on the SKS where people thought it was a East-German used one (turned out just to be a marking to determine where it was refurbished).

Hope this helps.

The plumb bolt part isnt related to the fincapture svt 40. Some poor bastard answered my local adds with an svt he payed 700 for 10 years ago. He sent me some photos and said it was sold to him as collector grade and the story was it was used by someones father in the war. Appears the bluing is perfect. The bolt is plumb and he said its electro penciled and that says refurb to me.

It does sound refurbished. Also the year of manufacture would be a dead giveaway as well because people are only arguing that the plumb bolts were standard for late war ones so if it is a 1940 or 41 (not quite sure when they think the cut off is) it is obviously a refurb. Poor guy likely got ripped off in the past (or at the time it could have been a fair price, who knows I paid 450$ for mine 4 years ago) with a fake story in to help sell the gun (reminds me of the Steyr M95s with the Nazi Waffenants on them). No one in the USSR was allowed to keep something as deadly as a SVT-40 for personal use, so that kills the story there (and even if it was kept hidden say under the floor boards or something there is pretty much no way for it to make its way here).

Ive been looking for a Finn capture myself but no luck I'm sure there are quite a few around but alot of people collect Russian milsurp. Ive had a WTB add up for some time now

He sent me those but I figured you guys like pictures when passing judgement. I apologize for the quality i didnt take them.I figured you guys would be best to ask about a fin svt. My local adds looking to buy old or junk guns have netted me some odd ones. Best being a 1927 tikka m91. From what im told its one of 3000 built in the 1920s. Ive found out you never know what people have stashed away

The svt is missing the SA stamp so it is definitely not a Finn. Whether they had a plum bolt or not wont matter for a Finn svt cause the finish would have worn off long ago.
