;)

Saw this in another forum and thought I'd post it here. Apparently, Savage is working on a .338 Lapua project due out reportedly next spring or summer. I wouldn't hold my breath for a release date but it looks like a winner from a cost/fun factor point of view.

You can check out the thread here:

I like their changes to the buttstock area. Was horrid before. At least it looks less add on now. A much better choice for rear stock too. I am sure they got alot of feedback regarding dirt and loosening adjustments when the rifle was actually being used.

Will be interesting to see what type of mag length they go with. I doubt there will be any changes to the LA except cut the hole bigger to suit the mag.

The larger bolt head is easy enough to make. Given that the Rem 700 has been happily digesting LM ammo for the last couple of years in factory trim, the Savage should have no issues with pressure and strength testing (already done with the LAZZ monsters anyways).

They might go with a semi push/controlled rd feed set up they used in their mag actions years back. It think that will overcome one objection with an inbolt ejector spring/plunger.

Except for changing the CNC program, this sort of change should be very simple to do.

That is quite the "subtle" brake they got there.

At the end of the day, this is just a good ole Savage in a fancy stock. I guess you feel the clothes make the man :)

I saw one the other day. Fit and finish is still savage. I'm sure it's a shooter, but 1900 bucks is too much $ for me.

Mystic, when I read the thread on Sniper's Hide I was under the impression that it was a scaled up action and not the standard LA. Perhaps, I read wrong?

bonez, where could you have possibly seen one of these and how would you know a price? The rifle is in the prototype stage at this point. It's not commercially available yet.

I think you're confusing this rifle with the .308 Axiom based contraption that is being pimped right now. lol

2bad4u2, if this is a scaled up action, NOW you got my attention.

however, they have stuffed the LAZZ monsters and RUM's into the good ole LA with no issues. Falling demand simply didn't warrant carrying the chamberings. The 338LM is no longer then the RUM and a schnick fatter/ same as the LAZZ. If it fits in a generic Rem700, it will easily fit in a Savage LA.

As much as I would like to see it, I can't see Savage doing a one off action.

I hope that I am wrong :)

Correct, not the 338. My mistake.

Have ya held one yet? they feel extremely tin-ey and a little uncomfortable, mostly for sale to those seeking the "tacticool" look. Not sure how many serious shooters you'll see rockin' this one. As for the price tag you could spend 2000$ in a much more effective way than this I believe.

just like sherlockbonez you are mistaking it with the BAS/T-K serie from Savage, similar but 2bad4u2 is talkin bout something you havent seen.

I have that rifle in it's current .308 version. I've had quite a few other people shoot it at the range and they are all pleasantly surprised by it's low recoil ( must have something to do with that ###y muzzle brake ) and it's solid feel. I regularly get the bullet holes touching at 200m and as I develop loads and get more practice with it the groupings just keep getting better. It's certainly not a hunting rifle, being much too heavy to lug around for any time. The only downside I would comment on is the M4 style stock is a little wiggly; the one in the picture looks like it might be somewhat better for a target rifle.

Oh, I didn't pay anywhere near $2000 for my rifle; gotta love those demo sales, heh.

Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

Just not sure where to get the mag box and follower for it. Maybe Savage.

Have a look at the bolt face and you will see that the size is already pretty darn close to what you need and the semi control/push feed takes care of the rest. I doubt you will need to mod the ejector to make it work.

Easy....
