Finally after 20 yrs ........

How is the moose hunting in New Brunswick? Are there any general open seasons? Will you have a reasonable chance at getting the moose with the LEH?
The season here in NB is the Thurs/Fri/Sat of the last full week in Sept. Three (3) days!

The zone I applied for is very close to home and holds alot of moose, so there is a reasonable chance of bagging one.

You seem alright. I'll talk to the committee, but I'm pretty sure we'll let you into Alberta.
I work here in the oil business doing inspections here in the refinery/LNG/piping etc. As far as work goes, it would be very easy to move to Alta, but the expense may be more than we could do one one income. I like Alta alot, but would have to live in one of the smaller communities as cities give me the creeps.

Cities don't give me the creeps. City people sure do though LOL

Just think, you could buy a Moose tag every year without a draw.

Elk, both kinds of deer, bear too!

So do you still have to pass a range test in NB for your moose draw? Also now that you were successful is it 5 years before you can apply again? Do you still have to take your animal out whole or have it inspected before you cut it up? My Uncle was a CO in the Bathurst area for years and I was actually down there during a moose hunting season (about 25 years ago) that my cousin was successful in getting a draw, but not in getting his moose.

Congrats and best of luck. Twenty years is a long wait! But the steaks will taste better!

Nope, they dropped that about 15yrs ago. Too much hassle. The purpose of that was to weed out those that would have the whole family apply, when really it was only dad that was doing the hunting.

You used to have to wait 5yrs before applying again (for free), but now they charge a fee to apply (approx $10) and allow you to reapply all you want. Go figure.

You are required to register the animal when it comes out of the woods and you then get a permit to posses the meat from it.

.

Does your permit allow you to shoot any moose, or just bulls? In 3 days, I'd be hammering anything that came out, as long as that's possible...

I told him this long ago.

Congrats Paul! Hopefully if you get your moose the meat will last 20 or so years :p. Just think, out west you could have had shot lots of moose as well as many, many other animals.

You need to move man.

Congrats, sounds like that is long overdue! 20 years to wait and 3 days to get 'er done...no pressure eh!?

Best of luck with the hunt!

Matt

P.S. Should ask you since your from NB....back home in NS, if you want to take your gun out to do some target shooting in the woods, etc, you have to be in season, hunter orange, etc...whereas up here in Ontario, you can head outback and shoot all year around, etc, as is the case with many other provinces...what is the case for target shooting in NB? I may be moving back East next Spring and would like to be somewhere I can buy a house on a nice chunk of land, and just pop out back and do some shooting year round.
