Well after only 8 years trying ,my two son's and I were all drawn for antlerless antelope in SE Alberta.Shot one nice buck for the wall about 30 years ago and the rest for meat...now which gun?....last one got a 100gr Sierra from my .250 Savage Rem 700 Classic....Harold

Pronghorn is one of my favorite hunts.... I just wish there were more opportunities available in Canada for it.

I go pretty much every year to Wyoming...simple and inexpensive. No guide required just trespass fee, tag and some ATF forms. Good times.

Nice... what rifles are you choosing from?
I have too many to list but it's too bad we have to use .23 caliber and bigger in AB as the 22-50 or Swift would be just about perfect with a 60gr Partition or Barnes x bullets.I have a 43 Mosin Nagant sniper I want to blood this fall , as soon as I concoct a decent load and regulate the scope.[likely just shoot a deer with it] as the 3.5 PU scope and my old eyes may not be up the the wide open prairie .Options include a 6.5x55,.270 or my FN .308 NM with 150gr bullets lays them out at any sane distance...........Harold

In your situation I would take the 6.5.......

Deer constructed bullets blow right through with the animal usually trotting off 30-50 yards seemingly unfazed ,then they just keel over......not much on them so you don't want to hit a shoulder......it's a protein tour..people tend to overshoot them due to size thinking they are farther away than they are.....my son's 25-06 with 100gr bullets was ideal..........Harold

Well Harold I wouldn't use that Remington classic in 250 savage....that's for sure. Go get a 25-06 maybe.

Oh and by the way I've been posting in the WTB section a 250 savage bolt action. Since you won't be using your ......,............buddy ol pal... :)

Not for sale sorry ..............i use a stiff 41gr charge of Win 760[too hot for lever actions] and the 100gr sierras.Makes one hole at 100 yards .One day I will have to chrony that one,but it must be doing near 3000fps.Opens Oct 3-5.......Harold

They are slowly bouncing back here in SK. A third WMZ was opened to tag applications this year. I saw quite a few this spring in the Kindersley area. Cool looking little fellows. I wouldn't hesitate provided it's legal to punch one with some 62 grain soft points out of my .223 inside of 200 yards. They aren't very big.
Congratulations on your draw and best of luck on the hunt.

I would love to take ATRS modern Hunter 6.5CM on a antelope hunt
Got the ATRS-MH manly for hunting Alberta prairies

Congratulation on your Family hunting trip

Harold....If you want to have some fun with the COs I'll build a 234 Penguin and send it to you for the hunt, complete with loads, using 105 gn Matrix bullets. I have a Vanguard donor already and I have the barrels and reamer. It would make you the first to "blood" the Penguin cartridge.

If you don't mind me asking What is a 234penguin ?

carverk...........The 234 Penguin is a cartridge I designed by necking down a 6.5X55 case to accept a .234" bullet. Marshal at Matrix bullets was nice enough to build the bullets if I bought the dies and I had drill, reamers and button made for making .234 groove diameter barrels. I have built one 23 cal so far using the 284 Win case and I have named it the 234 Douglas. I took a very nice whitetail with it a couple years ago. The project actually included five 23 caliber cartridges, the 230 Pipsqueak a 222 Rem Mag necked up to .234, the 234 Lynx, a 22-250 necked up to take .234" bullets, the 234 Hyrax, a 243 case necked down to accept .234" bullets, the Penguin as explained above and the Douglas as above.
Unfortunately my life has been such that I have been unable to get back to this project to complete it, or many other projects for that matter..........I have become a slave to the up keep and maintenance of my property and have little time or energy left at the end of the day. It sucks.................
