Finally decided...HK USP 9mm :) - thoughts?

So after a few months of deciding what pistol to get I am now wanting to get a HK USP 9mm in DA/SA and am pretty certain on it. I tried all the main stream pistols on CGN...ie 1911, Glock, CZ and all not bad pistols they are just not for me. Thoughts/opions on the USP?

have you handled one? they feel like a 2x4 to me.

No I havn't sadly...couldn't be much worse then a blocky Glock tho:p

The USP, by comparison, is huge. My advice to you?

Hold off on the USP purchase until you can first hold one.

The USP and HK's in general are excellent guns. For a few more bucks you can get a USP Custom Sport. The CS comes with the match trigger. I'm a rather big fan of the Custom Sport and have two that I use for IPSC Production.

I was planning on trying to give it a try first...its hard to find one to try or at least hold tho

These are available by mail, cost less that $50., and will tell the tale.

I found the size of the USP .45 and the Glock 21SF to be pretty close in size but the USP has more rounded edges on the grip. I haven't held a SIG in a while but the feel of the SIG P226 was similar to the USP if I remember correctly. I like the USP grip and its angle the best simply because it fits my hand perfectly. I would recommend at least holding a USP before you buy one.

I used to own a Glock22(Police?) for about 3 weeks... sold it... saved up some cash and bought a USP in .45 I love it to no end and would never get rid of it... it would be the only gun I had if I had to "just keep one"

Also... I am debating getting USP in 9, but already have a 92Inox... that hopefully my Wife will want after shooting it sometime soon.

Yeah I'd totally recommend not only holding one but actually shooting. Wherever you are im sure you can arrange to meet somebody at the range at "cost of ammo" to give it a mag or two to see if you really love it.

I just love the pistol. Always have... and other then getting a 92FS Elite2 (which I cant seem to find/afford when available) I would really consider getting another USP just in 9.

As for the HK45. I havent handled it, and in my opinion all guns are "preferance" rather then performance. Ive seen some crappy pistols being shot more accurate, than "good quality" ones, by better shooters. I want to try it but it has also a steep price point right now.

Side note if you are in Winnipeg, theres a good 9mm USP dualtone at Cabellas I believe that I keep handling everytime IM there...

Ahh someday.

Used to have a USP9 and a P2000 9mm. I haven't shot a P30L but I wouldn't recommend a USP over a P2000 and I'm pretty certain the same would hold true with the P30L. Way too big, way too blocky.

Great gun, its extremely accurate and factory trigger reset is very fast. Some of us used it for IPSC and have high round counts through them. I much prefer the grip angle on them compared to a Glock. The grip isnt as big as it looks. Very smooth gun to shoot, only negative might be slightly high bore axis and costly parts...

The days of Cals sporting armoury are long gone for shopping...

UTAF, like you I prefer gen 4Glock over 3.5, they just don't fit me. Now USP feels even worse in my hand than Gen3.5 Glock FWIW...

but Custom sport does look pretty cool.

If you haven't tried the USP I would find one first before buying it. It would be individiual preference whether the USP, P30L, or P2000 fit you better. I have had all three and find that the pistols fit me very well (without the decocker). I wouldn't pass on the P2000 without trying it first, as it is a fantastic little pistol. I have two USP's if you lived nearby you could try them! If you find a good used one you can always have the trigger swapped for the Match setup. I have mine in the Combat Competition setup which is a hybrid of the Match/LEM triggers, very nice trigger!

Good luck in the search!

This

Pay a little extra and get the USP Custom Sport in 9mm. It the best value for money of all HK pistols. The trigger is outstanding.

And This...

The Custom Sport or Expert is the way to go over the base model USPs
Don't get the Expert though if you are planning on competing in IPSC as it is not on the list (despite being almost identical to the Custom Sport:rolleyes:)

Can anyone link "the list" fir IPSC? I'm looking at purchasing my first handgun, and I'm interested in not excluding myself from any disciplines.
