My wife and I were looking at pistols yesterday. We've pretty much decided on the S&W M&P .40. It felt good in our hands. Now to find search through the dealers websites, that support the forum.

You can always relegate the 9mm to her and say its hers and buy yourself the 40 a little later......

And so begins another case of pistolitis. A friend gently suggests purchasing another pistol, before any pistol has been purchased. Soon you're on a first name basis with the guy at the gunstore. Then you're on a first name basis with the kid on the other side of the country who takes the phone orders for one of the big shops and who has that gun you just have to have. Before long the modest gun cabinet in the basement has become a hardened bunker in the basement, complete with biometric locks and tinted shatterproof glass. The final phase is when the kid who answers the phone at the big shop on the other side of the country calls you and invites you to his college graduation, and the guy at the local gun counter calls you when he has trouble finding things. Welcome to the club! Good choice on the M&P - excellent pistol.

LOL, good one!

Nice choice with the M&P! They are fantastic guns for the money! You will not be disappointed at all. ANd I'm sure you have already heard this prior to picking the M&P, but it is a very mild recoiling .40 cal. Most shooters say the recoil from a .40 M&P feels like the recoil from most other 9 mm pistols.

You and your missus will have a great time shooting it! Have fun and congrats!

It just occurred to me that I have decided on the .40, yet was holding a 9mm because they didn't have any .40s. Are the grips the same size on the 9 and .40?

Thanks...Jim

Umm, I don't think he is joking. Pistolitis is quite a serious psychiatric disorder;)

This is a serious problem in the shooting world. Other forms of this disease are: collectalRiflelitis & shotguntentahavetoomuchis. The major symtoms is that they tend to have the shooter dazing at too many new shineys and not mastering the ones that they own...

Just to advance the spread of the disease, a really cool thing about the M&P is that as well as the 9 and 40 grip being the same size, the 45 is the same grip size too. This is very unusual, most 45 grips (Glock comes to mind) are far too big, with the M&P you can move from 9 & 40 up to 45 as your skill level increases and still have a pistol that fits properly.

I got my M&P9 from Frontiers and it functions great with CCI Blazer brass and 124 gr handloads. I shot a fellow's M&P40 the other nite at the range and I prefer the 9mm.
