FINALLY done the bench!!!

Here is my newly installed bench! I'm a cabinet maker so i made this unit totally from scratch in my free time at work with some extra laminate. I didn't want it to take 3 months to build so its a little smaller than id like but that just leaves room for future possibilities! One of my favorite features is the magnifying glass/light combo. Definitely an asset to my bench at least. The things i keep in the bench are just the immediate essentials, the rest i keep in the closet behind. I haven't had time to build another storage cabinet yet. The counter is made of 1 1/2 solid birch, with brackets underneath into as many studs as i could hit. Lets just say during resizing there is absolutely zero movement. Grab the press with both hands and shake as hard as you can and nothing, not even a creak of the wood. I returned the undermount cabinet light 3 times till i found one that is bright enough for my satisfaction . Nothing better than a solid bench! What do you guys think?

I like the 90 degree corner or 'L' shape bench configuration. Great idea.

My set-up started out nice and neat but with the acquisition of more 'toys' came more support equipment so now things are, a little closer. I have the same magnifier with light and it is handy.

The white board is sure a great idea. Beats scribbling short term info on a piece of paper that will get lost part way through the job anyway.

Thanks for the feedback! I got my light/magnifier at lee valley for 50 bucks with the mounting bushing. The white board is SO nice to have as well!! That's a great looking setup john! I always keep mine top notch neat. I can't stand clutter and mess especially in my loading bench!

Sorry for the slight hijack but where do the rest of you guys get 4 and 8 lb containers of powder? I can only find 1lb at the local LeBaron and SFRC? I'm only starting out but finding Varget and such versatile enough that it might make sense to have more than 1lb on hand.

Most of the large retailers will carry the larger containers, or try higginsons or hummasons.

One of the things I'd rather see, if I were gonna go to that amount of trouble to build a bench with a Formica top like that, would be to use kitchen countertop type backsplash edges. It's a stone PITA, to go chasing after the small parts that roll out over the back edge and fall behind the bench, when the bench is fully stocked up.

Even a bit of quarter round would be a help, IMO.
