Has something to do with the high carbon content. You soak the slow rust blued part in it and the carbon apparently impregnates itself into the pores in the rusted finish. Makes it even blacker.so whats this trick with warm motor oil?
I agree with about the looks of the scope, fits the rifle perfectly. What you might do is watch for a clean Weaver j4 or baby Redfield, both 3/4" tubes, so they would fit in the existing rings, but a definite step up in optic quality, in my experience.
