I am sure some of you know I have been trying to finish this project (for way too long now.) Well I had a bit of time, and finished it up. The pics are bad, but you get the idea. Its a Model 7 in 25-284 with a fluted 23" King barrel, and Wildcat stock. As pictured it weighs 5lbs 11oz.

Honest question: why choose the .25 caliber over the .264 caliber? The difference is .007" and .264 has the option to go heavier. I consider my 6.5/06 just a .25/06 that can shoot heavier bullets when I want to.
Really, the gun looks super cool, and if you chose the .25 cal just to be unique, then that's also cool. Just wondering if you have another reason.

First off I love the 25's. But another reason is I think you will run out of mag space using heavier bullets in a 6.5-284 built on a short action.

That does look awsome - well done! What contour barrel is that double gun? I am building a 6.5-284 and want to keep is on the lighter side so barrel contour has me scratching my head. Thanks for posting pics!

I sent a factory remington mountain rifle take-off barrel to copy the contour, only slightly larger diameter, and 1" longer - if that makes sense.

I completely agree. To take advantage of the tremendous selection of long high B.C. bullets you pretty well need a longer action. There is quite a following for the "quarter" bore and let's face it, not every rifle has to be a 1000yd+ super duper pooper. My 6-284 is a damn fine varmint rig up to 500yds+ and good for deer as far out as I should be shooting at them. I have other rifle/cartridge combo's to play different games with.

By the way, the rifle looks great! I hope it performs for you.:)

That's about as slimmed down and trimmed as you can get. Very nice job. First time I've heard of Wildcat stocks, they seem reasonable priced, what are your impressions of them (delivery, fit, finish)?

Very nice job. I like the model, barrel, action, and quarter bore. And the fact that you kept it under 6lbs, is perfect!

But I gotta say, heart of hearts brother, I don't like the stock color choice at all. If fact, I hate it. Those light with speckle colors just don't do it, especially on a beautiful rifle like yours. Just my opinion bro. But again, a very nice job for sure!

Congrats Josh,it's a beauty.Next fall you can bring the 25-284,and I'll bring the new 25-06AI and we can go chase speed goats in Montana!I'll be down there in 3 weeks so I'll have everything taped for next season. Mur

Interesting rifle for sure. Did you use a centrefeed mag box or the factory one?

Factory SAUM mag box, modified follower.

I have used several in the past, always with good results. They're cheap, super rigid, and light... whats not to like? They do come as a blank, and will require finishing. Depending how busy Stuart is, they can be done in a couple days, or a few weeks.

Sounds like fun Mur, but I should be up for my draw here in Alberta next year. Perhaps I need to shoot two. :)
