The Light Weight Hunter in 223. Saw one at the range yesterday. Who has one and what are the thoughts on it?

It actually looks pretty good with that fluted bolt and color of wood. Wood be a nice walking coyote rifle.

Don't have the light weight yet...but I have looked at one. Last two bolt guns i bought were Savage model 16 with Accutrigger. Good shooting rifles.

I have a Savage 12 FV. Great for target shooting as it has the accutrigger and heavy contour barrel.
It is the varmint version so you have a very heavy barrel, not something I would want to be humping around..

But I am extremely pleased with its performance thus far.

Fouled the barrel with 60 factory ammo.

Next range outing I was running a ladder test on two different kinds of bullets.
Best performance was a 3 shot group of .56" @ 100m and a 5 shot of .65" @100m.

I'm heading back to the range this weekend to fine tune the loads.
Keep in mind I have a cheap Red field revolution 4-12X40 at the moment.

So thumbs up for Savage!

I went to my LGS to check one out when I saw that Savage was offering it in .260 Rem... the gun looks great, beautiful really... but as soon as I picked it up I knew I would not buy one... way too light and fragile feeling... we talk about "pencil" barrels, but holy crap... this one's barrel looks like the O.D is smaller than the bore :)D)... anyway, I am sure that some will love it for the very things that I don't... I like a little heft, I'm a big guy and I tend to get twitchy with a really light gun shooting offhand... more weight settles me down... I can see the difference looking through a scope with the power up.
